I'm told by my other half who works in the media village it's in exactly the same space as before, but the working office part of the Watchdog studio has gone elsewhere. So now they're just filming a show in office space, which is a shame given there are a few decent studios down the road (no doubt more expensive though). Apparently it was recorded on Tuesday. Seems a very odd move as the show always used to close with a few email comments bringing things up to date, although no doubt it's to accommodate Anne's schedule which will presumably be very hectic indeed once Weakest Link moves to Scotland.

The first new look Nicky Campbell show in Sep 2001 was awful, music stings all over the place and wonky camera angles, they toned it down considerably after a few shows so I imagine they'll do the same here. Alistair McGowan did a superb parody of those early Campbell shows on his 2002 series ISTR...

I think this whole prgramme has been ruined. The Top Gear style set does not work, why the audience? They didn't get to have their say they stood there and did nothing. Filmatic effect - big no no! In my book all of the reports featured were all non stories. The puschair review was strange it was like watching a live Which? magazine, Had anything actually gone wrong with any of the pushchairs in the report? Putting them on a buckin' Bronco was just naff and doesn't replicate real use anyway. Loading them with shopping on the back was pointless as they clearly stated makers tell you not to. The school uniform report was rubbish aswell, had there been any complaints then into the quality? Not from what they said. The Virgin Media report was the lowest point with a really tasteless song referring to dead people. Talk about dumbed down. I'm surprised Ann Robinson had anything to do with it. Great shame.

They weren't an audience, they were all featured in the items (although not all of them needed to be there on the night)

Yep - invited guests would be a much better term.

mmmm yes but the point remains at the top they were set up as "being allowed to have there say tonight...." They didn't, they were featured in reports.....the point of them being stood there all night was.....?

The guests did look very bored... and were pretty pointless. They added nothing to be fair.

It's obvious it isn't live anymore and that's a big shame. Nicky & Julia's Watchdog felt lots more interactive with peoples emails at the end of the show.

Rogue Traders does not fit within Watchdog. I liked both shows before but I just felt it was more of a filler during Watchdog which ruined it.

Things like the School uniform price comparason were pretty invalid because everyones back to school now.

Not a lot of company confontation happened. There was Duncan Bannatyne who looked very uncomfortable but that was probably because the set was poorly designed. But that was it except for the awful Virgin song which didn't really do anything. More results were got from Nicky or 90's Anne.

How Anita survived the chop I don't know... Bring back Paul Heiney.

But overall it wasn't too bad. Watchable but hopefully they can fix the niggles that's not making it right at the moment.

A lot of their reports were embarrassing for the BBC. The one where they attacked the Craftmatic beds conference because one salesman had been delivering poor service was utterly cringeworthy. It was also funny how all the people the reporter chased told him to stick to his comedy programme. Cringe for the BBC.

I also found it disgusting that they put Craftmatic on the "wall of shame" after the report concluded that the rogue trader was no longer working for them and that Craftmatic had given the lady a refund and a free bed. An utter disgrace and undeserved tarnish to their reputation to leave them on the "wall of shame" after the problems have been sorted.

Pushchair report was nonsense. They may as well have set them on fire to see how flame retardant they are, but then warned "the manufacturers don't recommend setting your baby on fire". Virgin media song was cringe.

Duncan Bannatyne interview was awkward because there were no chairs. Cringe.

What a mess the whole show was.

It also seemed slightly comical the way they moved them around the studio so you kept seeing the same gawping faces in the background no matter where Anne was.

It was a very disappointing start. I can only hope it improves quickly throughout the series.

The filmic effect was very Fox News and does not suit BBC programmes.

I thought with Anne back at the reigns the show would be more 'in your face' for consumers, but it wasn't at all and I'm sure the corporate world won't be too scared if it the interviews continue like that.

Looks like it could be another bad decision by BBC 1's new controller.

This clip is a good example showing the end of one of Nicky's early Watchdogs with a cringeable promotion for next weeks show and EastEnders after he's already said goodnight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dubrpG5dl0Y

Pretty awful. That music was dreadful too, though I did like the dog idea; made it look like Watchdog was your consumer companion. The new titles make it look too like a a Rotweiler

I agree with the earlier post I had high hopes with Anne back at the helm. It used to be so direct and she wouldn't let company bosses get away with slack answers, unlike Nicky Campbell, but this new format stinks

Awful. I hope they make some major changes in the next few weeks. I had high hopes that Anne Robinson's return would make the programme edgier and tackle some important issues.

The invited guests contributed absolutely nothing; they were just shuffled about the set to loiter in the background.

Why was Rogue Traders split into three segments? The recapping of what they'd shown only 15 minutes previously was patronising, unless it was deliberatly aimed at people with short-term memory issues. I don't need to know that Matt Allwright travelled to do his location report on the back of a motorcycle, and I cannot understand the purpose of that muppet he has with him. Both he and the motorcycle are pointless gimmicks which add nothing to the reports.

The Virgin Media report was also pointless. One person complained because VM had cancelled a direct debit. Bank accounts are frozen when somebody dies: that has the effect of cancelling all D/Ds and standing orders. That's nothing to do with VM.
