Today, January 23, saw the unveiling of a new logo for the UK entertainment channel Watch, part of the multichannel broadcaster UKTV. Watch was launched in 2008 and has recently started to solidify its intended position as the company's flagship channel.
The new look was created by DixonBaxi and will launch on screen on February 7. As of today, we only have the logo itself, a black and red sphere. Other elements will probably be released later on.
Interesting. The logo's going to divide opinion but it's pretty obvious just from this that the intention is to create a much bolder identity. The two previous looks were both drab, (sadly) present day BBC-esque campaigns; it'll be interesting to see how much of a departure this is from the norm (if they allow it to be).
I see the design agency is the same company who did the October 2008 Five rebrand. I've fairly high expectations then.
The problem though is that 'Watch' as a channel has no real mission statement. It's kind of a general entertainment channel that has no real flagship show to identify itself with.

I think that was what Richard and Judy was supposed to be. Unfortunately for them, that flopped.
That's certainly better than the one they have at present. However, I really liked the original eyeball, at least it had some character, and some of the idents were quite quirky.

The logo currently may be a bit bland, but I do love the overall presentation of it. Very modern & tidy, even the idents have been created in a different way. As somebody mentioned earlier, the new logo has got a snooker ball appearance. It's as though they're trying to shout through text to force people to watch.
Uk Gold used to edit the break bumpers onto the tapes(or whatever they used at the time!) I read somewhere.
This caused an issue when the channel changed it's on air identity, that you occasionally got a flash of the old identity, unless someone was quick with the buttons.
Does Watch (& the other current range of UKTV channels) suffer the same presentation decisions, in other words are we likely to get a flash of old style Watch bumpers when they change over?
