I wouldn't have expected the BBC to opt-out so soon! Ah well. Sucks for the terrestrial-watching news junkies.
I'm surprised they didn't put Songs of Praise on BBC Two (but I suppose there are too many videos set for this special 40th programme) ... but it may be that News 24 re-appears at 7.15 on Two??

Who makes these sort of decisions Nicky? Will it be Lorraine Heggesey and the other channel controllers, or will it be down to the head of news?
I think we can fairly safely assume that 'Future War' on BBC2 at 8pm will be cancelled anyway:
'Michael Ignatieff looks at the new generation of weapons - the satellites, missiles and precision bombs which could enable the Americans to hit any target on Earth at any moment. '

Is News 24 going to join World soon, or should I do my Turkish project?
Since Nik Gowing has come on I doubt they'll link up until after midnight UK time, when they usually do (I think).
I'm disgusted ITV didn't show the PM's address. Congratulations are due to BBC ONE coverage though. Very well prepared. Good move to put Songs on Praise on. Most people would want to see entertaining programmes rather than see every development break. It would be pointless keeping news on BBC ONE throughout the whole night. Much better to keep jumping back to the news now and again for updates. At least then, there'll be an air of prepardness in the report.

It'll be a joint decision by the Channel Controller, Head of News and Presentation.
I would imagine ITV's decision to go to Pop Idol will have had an impact on that decision. If they'd stayed with coverage I would have thought the BBC would have as well.
It may be that they feel now that Bush and Blair have spoken not much more is going to break and if it does they can always interupt programmes.
