I was typing away without looking at the telly but listening to what was being said. I then thought I'd turn round to see what the bloke was talking about: and it was a woman! She sounded so much like a man!! (The Caroline something woman)!! I couldn't believe it!!
Yes thats Caroline Wyatt - my whole family find that subject hilarious!
Yes I was rather pleased to hear the World headline bed - I hate the News 24 one - so boring!

SHE DOES SOUND LIKE A MAN... it's quite freaky. Maybe that's why BBC News sent her to Afghanistan.
That's not really pointless at all. AFAIK there had been no details released as to what was happening with regards to the Taliban - now we know what they want to do. Seems perfectly legit to me.
Beeb - slow again in reporting more attacks this afternoon, Sky were first to get pictures up too. CNN have a totally useless camera in Kabul, that doesn't really show anything, they just want to label it as an excusive and it's not really working for them.
Turned over to watch Al Jeezera (or however it's spelt), couldn't understand a word but the pictures give you a good idea as to what's happening.

You guys get Al Jazeera??? Are they available online?
Sky added it to the EPG a few days ago. Channel 674 if anyone wants to watch.
The time to watch it is when the main networks are reporting strikes. Occasionally they will play out Al Jazeera, live. This afternoon Sky just reported the news then put out a 'latest pictures' graphic. None of them took it live. Good channel to watch to see live pictures.
Yes I saw that. The BBC TWO specials use the News 24 opening ident, and close with the BBC World News Sombre End Sting. The BBC News Specials on World and News 24 use the Overnight ident and the sombre end sting.
Just to add a footnote, the sombre end sting, isn't officially the end sting. It is actually the sombre sting 2, used after a break if they had to be used on BBC World for sad news etc. There is an end sting, without an end beat. They need an end beat on the one currently used, to allow times for opt outs!

an amusing thing on sky news this morning when mccoy said he had an email from a concerned lady in ohio wanting to know what a contraflow was... i wonder what the americans do think of our news channels.

I don't know if SKY were using Al Jazeera TV pictures but I know that it's very very very expensive the use them live ... they have a deal with CNN. Hence why the BBC can't show live pix from Kabul .... Sky may be paying for them ...
Just watching Al Jazeera now - I remember reading something about Sky doing a deal with them to rebroadcast it in the UK, but I really didn't expect it to happen as quickly as this.
Their picture quality and studio look much more professional than the MediaGuardian report suggested (story about cameraman falling off the roof during a bombing raid, etc.)
Bizarrelly, the EPG and programme descriptions are all in English.
Do they have *any* English programming?
Also does anyone know if this is a permanent deal or just for the duration of the war?
