Paula Zahn was actually signed by CNN on the Friday before 9/11, which, at least until all hell broke loose, was a BIG DEAL (TM). Zahn's agent had negotiated with CNN prior to the end of her contract with Fox News. The contract was set to end in March 2002. As a result, Fox News will probably sue Zahn, her lawyer, and CNN over it. Zahn was set to anchor CNN's new NYC-based morning program which was set to start in early 2002. CNN is the last of the news networks to have a 'glitzy' morning show. (MSNBC semi-counts because they simulcast Don Imus' syndicated radio show) The other networks (NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox) all have fancy 'street level' NYC studios Today (NBC) is in Rockefeller Plaza, The Early Show (CBS) is in Trump Plaza at the GM building; Good Morning America (ABC) is in a two-story complex on Times Square, and Fox and Friends (Fox) is up a little further along 5th Ave. (I think it's near 47th Street).
Aaron Brown was one of the two original hosts of World News Now, which runs overnights on ABC (I've got a link to a live feed -- 2A-3:30A US Eastern Time on my site -- http://www.geocities.com/mhking2/links.html). The current hosts are Alison Stewart and Derek McGinty. Once Aaron 'graduated' from the graveyard shift, he anchored World News Saturday and Sunday, and handled some other fill-in anchoring for ABC. When Bernard Shaw retired from CNN last year, Aaron was on the 'short list' of potential replacements. He was officially tapped over the summer, and was set to begin a nightly NYC-based evening news show in mid-November (part of which would replace the now-defunct 'Sports Tonight' in the 11-11:30P slot -- 'Sports Tonight' lives on only as a show on CNN/SI now).

Don't really know what the French stations are making of the whole thing, as I don't have a telly. Very surprised to hear that CNN are lagging behind on this - i'd have thought that their experiene of this sort of thing would put them miles ahead. Still, I suppose veterans like Bernard Shaw are no longer around, and new people like Paula Zahn and Aaron Brown have been brought in. Just out of interest, who exactly IS Aaron Brown, and where did he spring from? I remember reading ages ago that he was going to host a new primetime newscast but had no idea who he was. The first I saw of him was when he presented from new york on September 11th.
