What are Fox showing when Sky News are showing ads?

Steve
Fox cut from a Sky Premier ad to a still Sky News logo with the ticker tape and Fox DOG still on screen. It was on screen in the UK for just 2 seconds before they cut to the Fox News 'Back after the break' caption. Fox actually kept the weather forecasts and travel reports!

MSNBC is the only channel providing their same coverage 24/7 -- they don't have a UK counterpart.
Yes they do - CNBC. But considering that CNBC was actually showing MSNBC anyway, and is normally a business channel, no wonder MSNBC stuck to their own coverage.

The BBC News Specials on BBC News 24, at 1200, 1700, 2100, use different titles all over the place!! Last night at 2100, we got the News 24 vamp, followed by the tag !! We did however, have a nice sombre end sting, where the beat faded into the studio of BBC News 24, and World's on World!! Tonight, we had the BBC News opening titles at 1700, but no end sting!

BTW, a couple of weeks ago, when the BBC had the News Specials on from Washington, did they have them at 1200 noon as well as 1700 and 2100? Who were the presented by, Gavin?

I thought the majority of them were presented by Gavin Esler, but didn't Philippa do some on her own aswell? Also, Nik Gowing from World also presented some.

are regular US citizens (eg 'the man in the street') interested in watching bbc / sky news? or is it simply for financial reasons?

im asking because i know my parents and friends would not be interested in watching US news networks.

i watched a programme on bbc 2 tonight, this bloke traveling through afghanistan, he was stopped by the taliban - but as soon as he mentioned BBC they knew what he meant and mentioned london etc... i was wondering would itv, sky or even any american tv network's name had the same reaction?

ITV certainly wouldn't! Sky would, mainly because of how they covered Kosovo. CNN certainly would. Although in the Middle East CNN reporters have almost been killed for revealing which network they're working for.
I'd say the mainstream US networks probably wouldn't get through - mainly because they aren't international. Reuters, AP(TN) etc, they'd probably all get through. It really does depend on the individual.

Has anyone seen this:

We are receiving reports that about 15 people suffered nausea after police scuffled with a man at a metro station near Washington and a jar of an unknown substance fell onto the platform. Details to follow

So it could be a bio attack

Interesting article here:

http://media.guardian.co.uk/attack/story/0,1301,566064,00.html

This is to do with the previous point about who would get through - ie would it only be the BBC. Notice the three broadcasters mentioned are CNN, BBC and Sky News. Simply because, in 24 hour news terms, they are the big three around the world. The American domestic services, MSNBC and Fox etc. will never be seen in that light simply because they are so US focused. There are many other 24 hour news channels. France, Germany, wherever you care to mention. Ireland are also planning an RTÉ based 24 hour news channel, to rival Sky. But the French and German station aren't broadcast in English, so you've limited your international audience already. DWTV in Germany haven't done badly - broadcasting in German and English - but realistically they still can't rival the big three. The only reason Euronews gets such high figures across Europe is because people can actually understand it. If it was an English only service, you'd probably find the viewing figures slimmed down drastically.

OK, I'll come clean and admit that I'm not exactly au fait on what's going on. Due to (1) being in France and (2) being ill and in bed for the whole weekend, I didn't actually hear about the strikes until yesterday! Shocked

Don't really know what the French stations are making of the whole thing, as I don't have a telly. Very surprised to hear that CNN are lagging behind on this - i'd have thought that their experiene of this sort of thing would put them miles ahead. Still, I suppose veterans like Bernard Shaw are no longer around, and new people like Paula Zahn and Aaron Brown have been brought in. Just out of interest, who exactly IS Aaron Brown, and where did he spring from? I remember reading ages ago that he was going to host a new primetime newscast but had no idea who he was. The first I saw of him was when he presented from new york on September 11th.

By the way, those ITN virtual studio pics look VERY good indeed! Do they make good use of the technology? Oh, and are MSNBC still using their 'war room'?

Yeah MSNBC are still using their 'war room' Fox have created one in Washington I think…

Aaron Brown was with ABC for a very long time -- the snatched him late this summer -- Paula Zahn was snatched from FNC a few months ago. They bother were supposed to get their own shows in the summer, but this expedited it all.

I taped Sky News on Fox News Channel last night and it kinda sucked. Not Sky News, but Fox but Sky in a little box and you chopped off a little bit of Sky News -- I don't know why they had to do that.
