Why are BBC One not showing Tony Blairs commons speech ?  Even ITV1 are showing that !

Huw told the audience to go to News 24 for that. Heck even Canadian news channels are picking up the speech...

I think Huw is just itching for the reporter to shut his trap... maybe Huw wants to go to Blair's speech now. Razz:

Who presented BBC News 24 this afternoon between 1300 and 1600, as surely it would not have been Bill Turnbull! Was Maxine Mawhinney still on?

C-SPAN will be showing Newsnight live at 5.30 pm ET -- they don't have anything scheduled for 5.00 - so i'm hoping they'll show the Ten O'Clock News…

At 9.00 pm ET they're showing the CBC again.

How odd... C-SPAN is showing CBC, while CPAC (Canada's version of C-SPAN) is showing C-SPAN.

As the British televised George Bush's speech, did channels in the us, and channels like CNN cover Ton'y speech or not?

The British always show American news, but CNN never show British News!

From before 8AM to 11AM (UK) Fox News were showing Sky News. After about 10AM they had a special dog which was the Sky News logo but without the time.

Sky News also mentioned they were on Fox and read out loads of emails from the US

Really!? I didn't know that -- I should've checked Fox last night -- I'll check tonight…

No the American channels didn't show Blair's speech - they were showing the Pentagon briefing -- BBC WOrld didn't even show it -- they'll probably be a report or something on it in a bit.

They probably joined because it was cheaper than to have a crew up all night and, i guess, because they can…

According to TV Insite CNN tried to secure exclusive rights to teh Al-Jazeera footage in Afghanistan and threatened legal action against networks who used the footage (breaking an agreement between CNN and Al-Jazeera) -- they backed off though when all the networks used the fottage anyway! The article also comments on how CNN was the slowest channel to break the story:
NEW YORK (AP) _ CNN backed off after rival networks ignored its attempt to secure exclusive video from inside Afghanistan during the American-led military attack that began Sunday.

The video, supplied by the Qatar-based independent television network Al-Jazeera, consisted mostly of grainy green footage of flashing lights and tracer fire.

But it did include a taped message from Osama bin Laden that was released Sunday afternoon.

The competitiveness and bad blood came in marked contrast to Sept. 11, when the main television networks agreed to share all of their footage from the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks.

ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC began extensive coverage Sunday shortly after the missile attacks, with anchors Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings and Dan Rather in their studios.

However, some CBS and Fox markets returned to airing coverage of National Football League games.

On Saturday, Al Jazeera managing director Mohammed Jasim Al-Ali faxed a letter to several American networks saying his company had established an ``exclusive relationship'' with CNN.

Al Jazeera gave CNN the right to use its material for six hours before it could be released to other networks.

Any network that disobeyed the directive ``shall be held legally responsible and could face prosecution in a court of law,'' Al-Ali wrote.

Al Jazeera is reportedly the only international network given permission to transmit pictures from inside Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

``You can see the contempt with which the entire broadcast community viewed this arrangement,'' said Jeffrey Schneider, an ABC News spokesman.

CNN's rivals were able to retrieve the pictures from a satellite feed. The networks cited the legal concept of fair use, which they said allowed widespread use of broadcast material in the time of a national emergency, said Dianne Brandi, vice president of legal affairs at Fox News Channel.

``These were the only pictures from an area where the United States was beginning a war,'' Brandi said.

``There was no question we would use them.'' Fox and ABC didn't even bother checking with CNN.

CBS and NBC executives did, however, and were told CNN was enforcing its agreement, spokeswomen said.

Both networks used the video anyway.

``The American public's interest was served today by putting its right to be informed above petty competitive issues,'' said CBS spokeswoman Sandra Genelius.

After the video had already been widely used Sunday, CNN Chairman Walter Isaacson said of the arrangement, ``I'm not going to worry about it.``

He would not discuss whether CNN would try to revisit the arrangement.

``The biggest issue now is not to worry about the competition, but to worry about covering this the best that we can,'' Isaacson said.

CNN said that Al Jazeera aired some videophone footage from the attacks that had been obtained by CNN  -- and it was subsequently aired by the other American networks.

Despite the agreement with Al-Jazeera, CNN was relatively slow to break into its regular programming Sunday with news of the attacks, lagging behind its broadcast rivals.

You can see the Sky news without the time that was used on Sky on Fox by going to live Sky News feed on www.sky.com/news

One of the emails read out on Sky said that Sky News should stay on Fox for as long as possible.  For a few minutes FOX put a caption on saying 'You are watching coverage from Sky News of...' etc.

The also left the FOX Ticker on the bottom of the screen.
