I have to say that if I was ITV1 boss, I would have done the exact same thing. The story had been reported, there was nothing more to say. I was at my parents house and after 30 minutes of the story on the BBC, my dad was bored and started flicking around, we then watched Pop Idol which was very entertaining. Fact is, ITV reported the initial attacks after which time there was very little else to report and they had additional bulletins later in the evening. There is no point all of the channels having wall to wall news when there is barely anything new to report. I am not in favour of news for the sake of it, and if you want that their are dedicated news channels, ITV1 is not a news channel, they reported it and moved on. Seems fair enough to me.

BBC World have stopped their 'special' programming and are broadcasting Asia Today (still with Nik Gowing though)

Agreed. Parent A turned on to the Beeb, then flicked to ITV and mocked them for having shoddy production values - Ms Derham didn't know what she was doing - he then move on to Sky were he remained for about 40 mins, listened to Bush and Blair and a bit of in-studio analysis, then he turned over to BBC 2 to watch some comedy thingummyjig. ITV has always been a channel for the majority audience and the majority didn't really want to watch hours of the same thing being said. The minority of news junkies - myself included - do, and so we watch one of the news channels.

It was funny to see the old yellow and black CNN 'BREAKING NEWS' graphic on-screen. I've not seen that for years now. The yellow and black aston was used back when breaking news was something very important indeed, not the watered down style of breaking news you get today, has been used since 1980, like the CNN Breaking News sting and music.

I love it when you refer to them as 'Parent A' and 'Parent B'!

Have you painted 'A' & 'B' on their foreheads ?

I think it's 1.00 am BST now (it's about 8.00 pm ET in New York) and BBC World has taken New 24's coverage.

Hope Bill Turnbull remembers to say just BBC News instead of BBC News 24 - although the poor guy must be knackared having done breakfast Sunday Morning as well!

It's almost time for The World Today and BBC America is still taking News 24/World coverage -- so I think I'll be able to see TWT. C-SPAN is broadcasting 'Breakfast' live too -- I haven't seen that in about half a year so I'll have to set my VCR.

I think the BBC coverage has been very good. I've watched it more than any of the American networks.

28 second countdown on BBC World (first time i've ever seen it) -- a World Today special is now on with Martine Dennis.
