God, that made the spoiler of our £1m win look like it was kept top secret. I do quite like the Hot Seat spin-off format in it's own right (though adding in the full 15 question Fastest Finger First round is padding at it's finest) but winning that on one question when someone ese did all the hard work seems harsh.

IIRC the original format was just 30 minutes and didn't have the FFF round. It was added around 2016 when they went to hour-long episodes after its ratings fell against The Chase. I'm sure they could have thought of better ways to make the show longer as it does feel quite out of place to the rest of the show.

Yes - really like the Hot Seat - but the 2017 introduction of the FFF is awful. I often just fly through it see who wins the $1K lifeline cheque and on to the "main game." As for someone winning just answering the last question - that is the name of the game. You need to be in the hot seat for the last question - it turns the books right round so it is knowledge and luck too. You see people play chicken early on and pass, gambling they'll get round again etc.

The biggest crime in that Hotseat full episode above.... The giving away in the promo $250,000 being won in the ep is very frustrating. Al la US type spoiler almost everything out a promo!

Couple of notes on yesterday's main edition ep...
- Someone goes home with nothing Klaxon!
- Eddie then helps 1/2 others struggling effectively with eye signals to reach £1,000
- 5/6 contestants got on, so the 6th in FFF, Eddie spoke to and gave £1,000 to.

Monday's WWTBAM special rated worse than the daytime Hotseat show. Hotseat got 444k, the special got 411k. I fear the formats are maybe too similar to be airing literally 90 minutes apart. Surprised they scheduled them on the same day. I guess with Beat The Chasers, for example, the format is different enough for it to be worth watching both in one day.

So long to, as many Aussie primetime shows were, airing for 100 minutes when really it struggled to hold your attention past an hour. Worth noting Hotseat itself isn't exactly doing great since The Chase came along - as mentioned before it was doubled to an hour in an effort to take it on but last year it was moved to 4pm in Adelaide and this year has been moved to 3pm in Perth. Nine started airing Tipping Point UK last year with rumours a local version was being lined up to replace Millionaire Hotseat.

Finally put this on YouTube, it's the start of a March 1999 episode of WWTBAM recorded off Grampian, complete with some adverts and a news summary beforehand. I live in the London region but this was recorded in Aberdeen by a family member! All my old tapes are in storage now but I found a DVD backup of this recently, it was uploaded in much lower quality on the PP about 15 years ago.

Note it's from the days when hour-long episodes were a rarity, this was up against Comic Relief night on BBC1 hence why it was recorded in the first place. Also nice to have John Duncanson reading the news who passed away a couple of months ago.

Was the show originally only half an hour then? Completely forgot. It's one of the few gameshows that actually works over an hour.

Exactly, no reason why the first couple of episodes of this run couldn’t have been 75 minutes, allowing DOI to be shorter and remove some padding.
Really enjoyed my time on this forum. Thanks for all the memories. 2019-2021

75 minutes is very long for a gameshow.

60 min is probably the limit, unless you get a particularly good couple of games

WWTBAM Australia did a live episode back in 2000 and was 2 hours long.

That's enough to drive anyone to tears.
