The best thing about Wales today is Jamie, Sarah, Derek and Bob, The Sports presenter, it looks like they're having a good time.

Bizarre* as is may sound, on the basis of merely a handful of visits to only very few different places in Wales, I have decided I would really love to live there in preference to England.

However, the Englishization of certain parts of Wales (as has been mentioned in this thread) concerns me. I find it appauling that the Welsh language could be dying out due to English-only-speakers moving there and taking over. So I would not move there until/unless I learn to speak Welsh fluently first.

About the only words I know at present are Newyddion, Heddiw and Cymru (pretty pathetic, ain't it?).

I wonder if Linguaphone do Welsh........(?)

The welsh language is dying out in Wales' most English area (South Pembrokeshire) But in other parts such as Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire (where Huw Edwards is from) the language and accents seem to be thriving.

English people moving to the area have pushed up houseprices, and the value of my house has increased to nearly £250k in the last few years. The Welsh assembly are already taking steps to stop English people buying second homes in Wales. I know of a village near me where nearly all the houses are owned by people who live away in England. The village is dead for most of the year which i think is very sad.

Even when the English do move down here to south west Wales, they still try to prevent welshness by flying the English flag in their gardens etc. and complaining to the county council about there being TOO MUCH Welsh on road signs.

I must say that the most of the people from England who do move down to Wales are retired and the women have screetchy, catty southern accents which really does annoy me!

celtic manor golf resort
botanical gardens

My headteacher is one of the English migrants and he is an example of the worst of them. I am doing the history of welsh broadcasting for my a level welsh coursework and i asked him to fill out a questionnaire on s4c.

In the 'What would you like to see on s4c in the future?'(Beth hoffwch chi i weld ar s4c yn y dyfodol? Biggrin Smile ) question, he put :
'More programs about wales not in the welsh language.'

Tw*t!

Anyway, back on subject, I really love the wales today studio, but it would be nice for a separate studio for newyddion and 2w news. Bit of variety maybe?

If you started speaking Welsh in my part of Wales, probably about 5% would be able to understand you!

I can't believe the hypocrisy going on here! Why is it such a sin to be English? We're the only lot who can't be patriotic because everyone else calls us 'racist' and 'little Englanders'.

I have no problem with the Welsh or anyone else being patriotic but I resent the double standards being expressed by some members here. In my school a guy from Wales put up a Welsh flag in the classroom for the rugby against Australia and we were all okay about it - now imagine if an English guy had put up an English flag in a Welsh classroom - same reaction? I think not!

In the South East we have people from all over the country coming here to live - do we burn down their houses, intimidate them by talking in cockney rhyming slang and generally being hostile? No, unlike certain other parts <cough>

This hostility to the English is really very very childish - Wales has had nearly a 1000 years of being ruled from London, Scotland nearly 300 - surely enough time has passed for you all to get over your petty grudges?

If you get to know us you'll see we're not so bad! Razz:

Wales Today is a well produced programme but should be for the amount of money thrown at it compared to other local news programmes. I sometimes feel they are so far up their own proverbials that it puts me off watching their smug, smarmy presentation!

The only reason i dont watch it anymore is that ive just watched 99% of the same news items over on HTV Wales half an hour earlier so why watch the same thing all over again but a smarmier version!

Thee whom broadcasts first is better in my books!
