Well I suppose youre right, but she isnt really an obvious choice of a judge is she? Taking that view into consideration, why dont pop idol and all its derivatives have a member of the record buying public as a judge? Whatever her views or ability to form opinion on the contestants it wont affect me - not because im disinterested in politics, (and maybe im being harsh in forming an opinion without seeing the programme first) its just that it seems that alot of things ITV launch sound good on paper, but are excecuted badly and arent worth watching (The Block for example..).

Oh, and as for what Lorraine Kelly knows about politics that qualifies her to judge... well, at least as much as the average member of the electorate, don't you think?

Anything is needed to make politics more interesting in this country! People say they want Gordon Brown to be PM. I think John Prescott should be Prime Minister, he wont stand for this nonsense! Good on him for punching that geezer aswell a few years ago! The only one in the hole of politics that has got any sense!

Although it sounds a reasonable idea on paper, how will ITV get away with it as they will effectively be supporting a candidate at the next general election.
As for the programme concept - it's entirely based on the fact more votes are cast in Pop Idol than General Elections (but you can only vote once in elections).
However, ITV have missed an opportunity here. It will flop completly on a national scale as many of the stronger candidates will have strong local connections. It would have been a far better concept done regionally, perhaps with a national final - and ticked a few OFCOM boxes at the same time!

OH
Didn't ITV nick this idea from the HTV series 'First Past The Post' from a few years ago?
It looks promising but why schedule all the episodes within one week? Why not drag it out to coincide with the real election and past May 2005?

Also, does the winner stand for election in their own home town? If so, whats the point in the public voting, as ultimatly, its highly unlikely the winner will live near us, and even less likely is that theyll actually be elected to parliament! Its just a waste of money as this winner will have absolutly no impact on our lives
