The thing that occurred to me when watching the two programmes last night is how 'nice' The Voice is. There's no nastyness or people being told they're crap, and no people being laughed at or pityed.

I agree, this was one of the things I enjoyed with Penn & Teller: Fool Us as well, sadly this didn't take off as I'd have liked.

I think week 3 will be interesting in terms of ratings, some have argued week 2 wasn't as strong as week 1, and presumably a lot of people would have heard the buzz from week 1 and tuned in the second week.

The garden is behind The Media Centre in W12 Media Village, with the interviews happening in the area normally used as a cafe on the ground floor of The Media Centre. (The garden used to appear in the back of shot on the last office-based series of Watchdog)

The performance auditions are in a TVC Studio.

A friend of mine who worked on the show confirmed that it is all filmed on the same day, none of it was done in Salford or Belfast. I had a feeling the garden bit was down at the Media Centre but couldn't place which doors they were entering.

Just goes to show you how versatile the W12 complex is, I didn't recognise some parts of it - all it took was a bit of cladding! "Not fit for the digital era", eh Tommo?

I remember an article about the filming of the Blind Auditions and now I've found it. All filmed in around BBC TV Centre and the White City complex. Incidentally there's an audience of 400 and the set was built by Julian Healey who worked on The Cube.

The Voice UK launches blind auditions at BBC Studios and Post Production’s Television Centre studios

February 2012: BBC Studios and Post Production has provided full studio services for the blind audition stage of BBC One’s new Saturday night talent show, The Voice UK.

Produced by Wall to Wall, The Voice UK sees four coaches – Tom Jones, Jessie J, will.i.am and The Script frontman Danny O’Donoghue – each select a team of ten contestants during a blind audition process in which contestants are not revealed until the coach has selected them based purely on the sound of their voice.

Recording took place in January in a number of studios at BBC Television Centre and using locations around the BBC’s White City complex, where contestants were recorded arriving and warming up. Studio 6 played host to the recording of contestants’ background stories, and Studio 2 captured before and after interviews with contestants and their friends and family.

For the blind auditions, contestants took centre stage in Studio 1 in front of an audience of 400.
BBC Studios and Post Production supplied a full set build of the studios, as well as the camera, sound and lighting crews.

After the blind audition stage, singers from each team will be pitted against each other in a series of eliminations. Remaining contestants will then compete in a series of live broadcasts, with the TV audience helping the coaches to decide who will be crowned The Voice UK.

That makes sense - brings the final a week earlier which they had to do due to Euro 2012 and gets what is considered the weaker part of the format over in one hit.

The way the Battle Rounds are being promoted I think they're going to be viewed as a big deal and an event so people will watch.

Of course they'll be promoted that way, but most people who've seen international versions agree it is the week point - but then again I think the US dragged theirs out over 4 weeks.

It's kind of the same with The X Factor - Boot Camp and Judges Houses are pushed as big events, but actually they're usually the lowest rated part of the series.

Actually the second Judges House's episodes in the last two series have been the highest rating episodes of both series, outside of the Finals!

The thing is I think the show is new to most viewers here so they might not be familiar with how the show does at different stages. It might buck the trend over here.

Little birdy tells me that The Voice beat BGT in the ratings last night - by a symbolic fraction.

Ho ho ho.

Also yay!

EDIT- Digital Spy indicates something more equivocal. Either way, its still great.

EDIT 2 - "'The Voice' UK closes ratings gap on 'Britain's Got Talent'" - No, DS, in a straight fight it won. Only when you add in +1 figures does BGT do better, and BBC One doesn't have a +1.

I watched for the first time last night and have to say how legitimate it felt, really enjoyed it. Caught the end of BGT and it just seems stale.

You're absolutely right, Gavin. Plus the many many people who use iPlayer as a means of catch up will only bump up the figures even more. Very pleased and very much deserved for The Voice.
