Loved The Voice tonight. It seemed so more 'real' than The X Factor and no real sob stories to speak of and thankfully no 'novelty' acts aka Jedward!
I'm afraid I disagree. Probably like quite a few other people, I only watched the first 30 minutes of The Voice[UK] as I turned over for Harry Hill's TV Burp after that. During that time, I saw someone using the currently very fashionable and unverifiable "I was bullied at school" sob story, she lost points in my mind for not being cyber-bullied (whatever that is) but the sob story was definitely there. I also saw a contestant (may have been the same contestant) doing the long pause thing, "I will choose.........." followed by a close up of each judge before continuing with ".......Tom Jones". I repeat, this was a contestant doing this. I can believe it when I see Bruce Forsyth, Ant and/or Dec or Phillip Schofield doing it because they are professionals and they have someone in their ear telling them how long to hold the pause. I actually hope that this was faked and we haven't got a generation of people who actually speak like that naturally.
I should confess, I am not a fan of this kind of programme. There is nothing I find more boring that watching people sing on television. but I was with other people on Saturday so as well as watching the first half hour of The Voice[UK] I also watched Britain's Got Talent. As someone who doesn't watch these shows regularly, the fake bits still jump out at me and are actually quite annoying because they seem to be trying to force a story rather than showing anything close to what really happened on the day. From the bits I saw, Britain's Got Talent seemed to have many more fake elements compared to The The Voice[UK] (at least the ones I could spot, maybe The Voice[UK] is just better at hiding them), but I don't think The Voice[UK] can ever be called 'real'. What this country needs now is another TV fakery scandal.
For what it is worth, one of the people I was with choose to watch Britain's Got Talent over The Voice[UK] because of the 'funny acts'.
I also hope we have heard the last of the promotional stuff for The Voice[UK] too. I don't mind these shows as long as they stick to their slot and don't ruin other programmes for me. I am sick of hearing that it is different from other shows in that the contestants aren't judged on looks and they don't have judges, especially when both things obviously aren't true. Would alophica girl really be on the show if it wasn't for her look? I think not.
With all the The Voice[UK] vs Britain's Got Talent hype, there has been no mention of Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards fantastic performance in Winter Wipeout Celebrity Special on Saturday. He did really well, winning all the rounds and then winning the final round by beating the other [younger] contestants by about 2 minutes. AND he was bullied at school (I assume).
tl;dr: I don't like The Voice[UK] but I quite liked Winter Wipeout Celebrity Special.
