The Battle-rounds have begun... (March 2012)

It dragged on a bit but middle stages for these types of shows always do. I don't think Reggie & Holly should have presented it or even appeared, it could have worked a lot better with presenter-less editing to give it an automated feel. It came across a little cheap tonight I felt.

I thought it was good, if predictable. I think the studio parts could have benefited from having the 'battle advisers' beside the coaches (as in the Irish version). Apart from that, I had no complaints! Slightly odd having 9 battles tonight and 11 tomorrow night, you'd think it would be even between both shows given both are 90 minutes an episode this weekend.

I liked it although as noted they did give quite a lot of praise to some pretty shocking performances.

There was also quite a few shots were you could hear a lot of canned clapping and screaming even though you could clearly see the audience weren't doing that.

Considering it's called the Voice it should be noted that I knew exactly who was going through just by looking at them.

The point of the show got a bit muddled with one of Danny's battles quoting "I'm going to send though the artist who I think can sell more records". So... its not all about the voice?

A few weeks ago, Jessie said "its not just about the voice" to one of the contestants.

It's all about the voice... except when it isn't! http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/forum/smilies/biggrin.gif

Now they've seen the people behind the voices, I'll bet there'll be no minger going through!

Yes, that was frustrating. Also one of my pet hates is performances where the audience burst into applause a few seconds in (something that happened in the Blind Auditions - can't say I noticed either way last night). Just seems so unnatural.

Exactly - those who bought through a sob story or had the higher profile seemed to make it through.

Talking of which, anyone know if they'll be a winners single released immediately off the back of the show?

I'm not sure there is anything actually in that, other than audition shows being edited when the producers already know who the finalists are or at least those in the latter stages. BGT and X Factor do it too, its just so the viewer can identify with certain contestants more easily.

Just moving away from The Voice for a minute, would it really be worth X Factor giving a 10 minute slot at the end of one of the audition shows with a backstory only for the contestant to get kicked out at the first stage of bootcamp? The same sort of principle applies here, although most contestants appeared to have equal coverage.

Well they rather unwisely gave the flagship final audition slot last year to an act that was clearly going to be rejected again by the judges, but I take your point about them building the story.

Seems a bit rushed tonight really with 2-3 performances cut short - including the one they've been plugging all weekend as the biggest upset. Also rather annoying when the actual clip is no longer than the teaser clip too.
