Just thinking back, does anyone else remember a cross-promoted film season between BBC2 and Channel 4 in the mid nineties? I remember it as being after the 'TWO' ident phase [may be wrong] as the endcap for the promo i have an image of in my head was the diagonal 'edge' from the Blade ident with the:
2
BBC
logo in one corner and the channel 4 blocks logo [thus before the late nineties 'discs' rebrand] in the other at opposite sides of the screen.
I believe the film season was to commemorate the death of a filmmaker or director, and was held over the course of a weekend, with the 2nd part of a film being screened on channel 4 during sunday evening [7:30pm or 9:30pm stick in my mind].
I'm kinda hoping someone has more information or can validiate / debunk this, as as you can proberly tell I have built up quite a back story in my mind on this if it is false. My best guess for a year would be.... 1995, perhaps 1994.
I believe this may be referring to the co-operative production and broadcast of Karaoke and Cold Lazarus, a joint venture between the BBC and Channel 4, written by Dennis Potter, and starring Albert Finney as the protagonist Daniel Feeld. Other famous faces to pop up included Richard E Grant, and Frances de la Tour (better known, of course, as Miss Jones from Rising Damp).
This extremely rare co-production venture was largely well received at the time of its broadcast, and - if I recall correctly - received widespread critical acclaim, thanks to the exceptional direction, impressive performances (particularly by Finney), and high production values for a television show. Sadly, due to the complexities of the joint venture, there has not - to my knowledge - been a video or DVD release of the Feeld saga, and neither the BBC nor Channel 4 see it as a priority to negotiate the terms of release between them.
However, for those interested in seeing it again, it was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise to see it turn up on TV Choice On Demand on Virgin Media, where all episodes of Karaoke and Cold Lazarus are available to view at any time.
Great thanks for the info - that sounds like the one I was thinking of
No problem - and just one more piece of info: my best recollection is that Karaoke was broadcast first on BBC2; the second part of the story, Cold Lazarus, followed on Channel 4.
The way I remember it (and Wikipedia confirms it),
Karaoke
was on BBC1 first, and repeated the next night on Channel 4, then
Cold Lazarus
was shown on Channel 4 first a week later, and repeated the next night on BBC1.

You're quite right in correcting me on the point of it being broadcast on BBC1, rather than BBC2. I hadn't recalled the broadcasts being scheduled in the way that you outlined in your post above, but it was a while ago!

The first episodes of each are on the BBC Archive Trial for those who have access.
It's a pity, I threw an old VHS tape out the other week with a strange programme recorded on it from Channel 4 in 1995/1996. When it finished there was a trailer for the programme with the channel 4 logo in one top corner (bigger 4 without the circle), and the BBC1 logo in the other. I don't know what the programme was though, someone else taped it. But if I still had the tape I would have posted a capture.
