VIVA To Close & Be Replaced With MTV OMG?

I think Viva timeshares with 5USA+1 so they’ll probably just extend that and keep 57 by launching some dreadful 2 hour channel like My5+1 so they don’t lose the space.

They've done just that with 5Spike+1 - on COM7, only on between 2am to 4am.

So does that mean the slot previously occupied by VIVA is no longer?

5USA+1 took over the majority of the hours, 5Spike+1 eats into the 5USA+1 slot between 2am to 4am just to maintain an EPG slot for Viacom.

Viva was moved into the 790s graveyard zone straight after 5Spike+1 was stealth launched on Freeview.

MTV OMG launches tomorrow. Not seen any promotion for it on or off air. All very quiet.

It's basically just a rebrand of MTV Love, rather than a launch.

I don't recall there being much (if any) promotion for the launch of MTV Love, so isn't much of a surprise that the rebrand to MTV OMG isn't being promoted either.

I don't think it'll be a really big deal for OMG to launch. For all we know it could easily be a simple switch at 6am which'll probably be like this:

MTV Love was just a temporary channel as a stopgap between the closure of VIVA and the launch of MTV OMG, so it's a surprise to see so little build up to it.

There was a lot of news coverage about MTV launching the new channel back on the 8th February when they issued a press release announcing it but since then nothing.

I'm not sure there was 'a lot', but it seems to me that 'OMG' will just be the placefiller for when MTV don't have one of their pop-up stations, allowing Classic to remain year-round. You'll see press releases each time it rebrands (I presume Summer, Halloween, Christmas) but probably not when it reverts to 'OMG'.

I saw at least 10 articles on different websites, so pretty decent coverage.

MTV have got on top of it today, with a page on their website all about it and are now promoting it across social media.

It's just a tad ironic that the last song played on VIVA was Spice Girls' Viva Forever.

That won't have been accident! Going out with a sense of humour.

Humour is the last thing I'd associate with that song. As good as it is, it hardly makes me happy.

It's a nice touch, though. It's relieving to think it's not always some autonomous robot churning out videos.

MTV OMG's idents are, in most cases, a ITV2 knockoff, as there is a slight similarity to both.

That would have been planned, deffo.
