A post on DS seems to suggest that VIVA will close at the end of January on Virgin at least and be replaced with a temporary channel called MTV Love for Valentine's Day. After that closes at the end of February, a new channel called MTV OMG will take its place. Not sure if this is cable only or Viacom is actually closing down the VIVA brand and replacing it with a new FTA MTV channel for all platforms. Anyone heard anything about this?

I believe that when Virgin agree carriage deals with channel providers such as MTV, they are typically only contracted to carry a set number of channels from that provider, so if MTV wanted to make a new channel available on Virgin, they would have to remove another channel, such as VIVA, in order to make room for the new channel.
Considering the main MTV channel is now full of barrel scraping brain-dead "reality" s***e and overnight teleshopping, I dread to think what MTV OMG might have to offer. Hopefully it'll never be allowed to waste any of the limited DTT bandwidth as a Freeview channel.
MTV used to be short for Music Television. Now it's short for Moronic Television!

Though it's not in the music section anymore, and hasn't been for a fair few years. MTV Music has replaced it as their main music channel, alongside the specialised genre channels.
MTV hasn't been any good for well over 15 years now.
Agreed. MTV was at it's best (IMO) back in the 1990's ... it started going downhill after they let their best VJ Ray Cokes go after what I like to call "The Hamburg Incident" in 1996, and then when MTV Europe was split into a network of separate country-specific channels.

Not that any of those channels offer anything like the sort of programming the MTV of the 90s (and very early 00s) used to offer.
