I'd rather be represented by our beautiful landscapes, and sports, music etc. accomplishers, thousands' of years' old heritage.

Have never seen a Visit Britain one but there have been a Visit Scotland (the one with the nice music) and a WalesCymru advert.
(I'm in Northern Ireland BTW)

We often get the WalesCymru advert shown on Granada, but it has been shown Nationwide on other channels. I remember once we did get an advert on Granada from 'englandsnorthwest' telling us to visit our great Region! I find it a bit odd when they flog your own region to your own region, but I suppose it's better (from a Lancashire person's POV) than an advert telling us to Visit Yorkshire.
(And the same the other way round!)

depending on where you live you get ads for your local area which is a bit daft really. When I lived on the isle of wight there were ads for, the isle of wight, now I live in cumbria there are ads for the lake district.
You would think the tourist board wouldn't advertise local things on their door step, I wonder if parisians get ads for paris?
I remember as a child seeing an ad for the yorkshire dales when I lived in northamptonshire. Now as previously stated we get ads for wales and scotland

it used to be shown on English premiership football matches overseas overlayed on the grass, thank goodness they stopped that practice!

I actually quite liked the "englandsnorhwest" campaign - I originate from Bolton, nr Manchester (but now live in Den Haag). But apart from what you see on that advert (I have seen it on ITV1 - via Sky satellite), how much of the northwest do you know or even visited. Remember the Northwest stretches from North Staffordshire to the Scottish Borders, from Isle of Man to the West Pennine Moors.

It's not 'daft' at all. The local tourist boards know their market including the fact that most visitors will come from an adjacent area.
There are 5.5 million ITV1 Meridian viewers and only 125,000 of them live on the Isle of Wight.
The Isle of Wight tourist chiefs would like the other 5 million + to visit - hence commercials on ITV1 Meridian!
