I just got the new software today, but will I continue to use my normal Telewest box? The mini guide text font is a tad big, maybe they should make it a little bit smaller.

If you mean will you get new equipment, then no, you won't.

Wouldn't mind too much but the software is complete pants, it really is. Used to sort things nicely into my own personal order, now it's decided by numerical order even when using the hobbled favourites menu. Used to be able to force a low-level reset (also known as that "Fix" button if it didn't hard reboot first), now it goes "Wah, I can't do it!" and I have to reset the box.

I guess it's based on the old Telewest code, if so I really do miss the old CR3 software which, whilst a slow blue idiot, worked in a way that was better than the previous software. The new software feels sub-CR2 and including the tiny weeny text, one day guide and the reminders buried in nowheresville along with the fact I can't get info on programming for channels I don't subscribe to without the sales spiel it's all crap. Feels like beta software, terrible.

My box has now got the new software, and I managed just now to have a quick glance at the miniguide, because someone is watching something else. I actually like it, because it's clearer and not as stretched as the old look, albeit a bit smaller. But now it looks less obtrusive.

I should get a chance to have a proper look round the software later...

My box is still on the old blue-NTL software, although I have a 1st generation Cable & Wireless STB, ie a Pace 1000, so AIUI the Updates are being planned for later on. As a colleague of mine said on her newer Pace box the EPG had changed to Virgin.

I'm not sure what model my box is, is there a label on the back?

By the way, the light previously assigned to 'standby' is now permanently on when the box is on. I'm not sure about when it goes into standby...

There should be an old-fashioned switch to throw at the front of the box to switch it on, and you should be able to change channels while the box is booting. Or at least that's how it was on the old blue NTL software, has the startup screen changed apart from the new VM branding?

So annoying. Fair enough, you get a personalised favourites menu. But what's the point of that if when you press channel up and down, it goes to a completely different order?

The fixamabob has never worked for me. Really don't see the point of it. You press fix, but a few seconds later, you have to get up off your bum and crawl round the back of the box when it hasn't worked.

Can I just say that I always hated the interface of Virgin Media, I thought it was slow, unstable and crashed all the time.

Is it just me or have all the boxes reset to sending a 4:3 signal out of the SCART socket?

The more I look at this new interface, the more I actually like it. True, it's a bit slower and smaller, but I'll get used to it.

There's a Label underneath the box which has the official details.

I only just got the update today, and whilst I can live with most of it, the new Favourites UI really is horrendous, isn't it? Whilst it was just a testament to my extreme laziness, I had the favourites nicely set-up with the music channels so I could rapidly hop between them by just hitting one buton ad nauseum. Now it calls up the icky little pop-up which takes a split second too long to come up. This extra button press per channel hop has ruined my life and defiled my face.

Are you joking? Mine's crawling as it is, I can't believe it's gonna go much slower!
