It's for customers who can't get Virgin Media cable TV, but still want broadband/phone services. So then they don't lose out, and can get the same free TV as Virgin TV customers.
Just seen over at Digital Spy that Virgin Media are going to develop a Virgin branded DTT set top box and provide it with broadband and unlimited phone calls for £19.99 a month
Not sure what to make of this, I don’t understand what VM are goign to be getting out of it. I could understand if it was a IPTV enabled STB but it seem to be just a standard Freeview box with the VM logo on it.
Tend to agree - it seems to be just a normal Freeview box - so they're basically giving away one if you sign up to Broadband/Talk - which you can already do without having cable anyhow!
I think it also could be a bit confusing if they use the Virgin Media brand considering that's what they've applied to cable - and this isn't cable!
I presumed they would be going down the IPTV route like BT have so they could push their On Demand services, though then again that could do the core cable business harm considering it's their major asset in the war on Sky at the moment.
Apologies if this has been mentioned, but this morning I got a letter from old Dick Branson, telling me about the Sky situation, and how they were reholding talks. I also got a piece of card telling me I was "cordially invited" to take part in the penny movie thingy.
According to Digital Spy without Virgin's customer Sky One has now dropped out of the top five non-terrestrial channels and lost nearly 25% of it's audience.
It got just 1% of the audience share - it's lowest since 2001 - and compared to last March ratings are down a total of 38%.
It be interesting to see how Virgin Media has suffered in comparison, though probably with the merger it be difficult to get comparable data. I'd love them to turn round and say "Well, we don't want you!" and leave Sky well and truly screwed!
I know it's going to be a few years until this happens but with today’s change to the movie channels (you now need to enter a PIN at ALL times on Virgin) how many people drop the movie channels.
With Virgin pushing VOD could Virgin replace Sky's movie channels and use their own Filmflex movie service to access particular movies
With the dropping of other Sky channels it shows they they are not worried about getting rid of channels if Virgin don't believe they are worth having.
Having said all that it will be interesting to see how many customers have switched to Sky and how many customers Virgin have lost.
I don't have the Sky Movies channels on Virgin, because they're just pointless.
I would love to know how many people have moved to Sky from Virgin, since the loss of Sky News, Sky Sports News, Sky One.
I think Virgin should dump the Sky Movies channels altogether, Virgin are capable to providing an alternative, example Filmflex channels, Teleport, etc.
Having said all that it will be interesting to see how many customers have switched to Sky and how many customers Virgin have lost.
Here's one of them right here. Sky have everything I want and virgin no longer do, supply and demand. You might think their not important and that's your choice Mr Branson but this 1 customer here beg's to differ I'm afraid
I note tho had it been the other way around, the sky movie & sports channels that had been pulled and the others left, well I could'nt of given a ......
