What I find more interesting is whether VM will now pull all its channels from Sky! If that's what they got to do to get some action out of Ofcom I totally agree with them using that tactic.

They can't they've previously renegotiated with Sky on carriage for Living, Bravo, Challenge etc, and it was at a much reduced (and realistic) rate I understand. They don't have that as a bargaining tool anymore.

Im sure there are things VM could do - like rename all its channels VM Living , VM Bravo etc and say to Sky that the contract doesnt include these new channels and the previous incarnations cease broadcasting.

If they really wanted to there are ways and means around anything!

They could also have a different Sky feed that for 24 hours a day just showed the Virgin Media logo and a number saying to continue watching this programme you need to subscribe to Virgin Media.

I'm surprised that on the idents they haven't slapped a Virgin Media Logo somewhere on the screen

Of course they will. If they dissapear at all. I don't think it's in the best interests of either parties to have the basic channels off cable.

It's not in Sky's interests - for all their posturing Rolling Eyes

If you did that you'd be playing into Sky's hands a bit, ok you might not go for Sky but you'd still be leaving NTL-Virgin as they like to call it, which is no bad thing in there book. As has been said if Sky One goes it'll soon be back.

No guarantee of that tho is there, and yes I would leave Virgin and switch over to SKY, i toyed between the 2 before anyway. I picked to go for telewest (as it was then) because I had my internet from them and they could just tee the wire to give me the TV so it seemed logically to have them.

But I made the wrong choice; you get more channels with sky anyhow. Only downfall is that V+ will record 2 channels and allow viewing of a 3rd sky+ only does the one (but on the up side you can mark stuff to 'keep' that you can't on v+) so i'll be switching over soon.

The main reason in the 1st place for me get a digital tv package system was for The Simpsons and Brainiac on sky 1, I watch other a lot of stuff across other channels for sure but those were the main underlining reasons behind me having it in the first place. So without them its a pointless provider and service.

Didn't Nickelodeon pull a similar stunt when the carriage negotiations collapsed for the Nick channels on cable a wee while back. Granted, it wasn't so much of a bluff in that context, but a very odd position to take.

Yes. It puts a message at the bottom of the screen telling you what's what, And tells you to press blue to hide the message.Usually it carrys the channel for 1 month to prove itself

Ben, I can't get Virgin because they stopped laying cables when they got to the bottom of my road when it was built 10 years ago. That's why everyone on my road has a Sky dish.

Had they carried on, I would've gone with what was Eurobell/Telewest as I never wanted a dish on the side of my house in 1998 when I bought the property. (I was Comcast cable in Stockton-on-Tees before I moved here).

The fact is me and my 60 or so neighbours have no choice. I have gone from "Movie World" to the "2-Pack" Sky package because of the reduced Sky Movies service. I know my attitude to Sky has become worse since I have read everything about these carryings-on against Virgin.
