The tit-for-tat between Sky and Virgin continues.

Virgin claimed they offer Sky Sports cheaper with the Sky Sports channels and a selection of digital channels for £26, compared to £34 for Sky.

However, Sky have complained they are lying as you need an £11 phone package to get that offer, meaning they are actually £3 cheaper.

And Sky still making themselves look even more stupid by being the only ones in the world referring to them as "NTL-Virgin" - obviously wanting the new brand to be associated with the troubles of the old!

It's indicative of the immature attitude they have adopted.

It seems pretty clear to me on their webiste that you have to have the phone line first.

To kick things off all you need is our great value phone service for just £11 a month. That's the same price as BT's standard line rental but also includes unlimited weekend calls to UK landlines (numbers starting 01 and 02). For Sky's basic package with Sky Sports and a BT phone line you'd pay the premiership price of £45 a month.

I've just got a letter with a nice shiny leaflet type thing through my door, telling me all about Virgin Central. Funny how I never got one telling me who Virgin Media are...

Anyway, I might scan it in later if people want me to. No? Okay...

We got it too, must be Nationwide.

I've taken a look at Virgin Central and to be honest that it does not rather special at all, I've pressed Red and it all leads to is the bog standard On Demand thing, just that there are more shows such as Nip/Tuck and they seem to be free.

I guess it's just what the On Demand Preview Channel was made way for.

Exactly, same old On Demand channel, but with new graphics. I quite like the look of what's free, but its hardly 'building a schedule' as we were promised.

Sorry for the useless quality, but it should be readable. For non-Virgin Media customers, here's the letter...

ITV and also Five content is not included in the On Demand Cotent, on Virgin Central and also Virgin in talks with BSkyB to renew carriage deal for the basic Sky channels.

Quote:
Virgin Media has launched its new TV-on-demand channel, Virgin Central today, with no content from ITV or Five available on the service.

Malcolm Wall, head of content at Virgin Media, said the company is currently in ongoing negotiations with ITV and Five, with meeting with ITV planned for this week.

A Virgin Media spokesman said that it has had an on-demand content on its platform for over a year, pointing out that no ITV on-demand content is available on any UK platform.

Virgin Media is still in talks with BSkyB to renew the carriage deal for Sky basic channels, including Sky One, with Wall reportedly saying that both sides are "negotiating in good faith."

Looks like Sky are withdrawing from VM after talks between the two parties broke down.

Reports suggest that Sky were asking for double the amount for the deal, and actually had no intention of negotiating and it was deliberately engineered in order to supress competition.

So, Sky One, Sky Two, Sky Travel and Sky Sports News, Sky News all look set to leave the platform at the end of the month.

So that's Freeview and now VM. Skys arrogance knows no bounds.

That's terrible news, although I don't watch any Sky channels apart from News, its taking away some of the pull to get VM. Sky reckon they can walk all over people because of their status as a broadcaster and digital platfrom, but in reality they can't.

This sounds like a complete case of cutting off your nose to spite your face on Sky's part.

Advertisers won't want to pay as much for services on satellite only. That's assuming they don't come to a last-minute agreement.
