The channel launches at 9pm on Monday. The first advertising slots have been purchased ahead of the launch...

I read on anothe for(DS)um that Virgin 1 isn't going to be FTA on satellite. I'm surprised it's on satellite at all actually.

Well as FTN wasn't FTA on DSat I'm not that surprised that Virgin 1 isn't to be honest. (Virgin 1 is effectively a rebrand of a Flextech channel - and none of the Freeview FTA Flextech services are FTA on DSat are they?)

It's quite funny - they don't actually mention the word "Sky" on Virgin Media Television's Bio of Virgin 1:

Virgin 1 will be available on Freeview, Virgin Media and digital satellite with a 24 hour schedule. EPG numbers will be Freeview 20, Virgin Media 122 and digital satellite 153.

It's also interesting what they say about the branding too:

virginmediatv.co.uk posted:
Virgin 1 is Virgin Media Television’s brand new general entertainment channel and the first to be branded under the iconic Virgin banner.

...meaning the other channels may follow suit per chance?

I have noticed that Setanta Sports also refuse to mention Sky in their advertising (choosing to refer to it as satellite) yet use the Freeview, Virgin Media and BT Vision brands.

Would you use your direct competitor's brand in your promotional material?

And I doubt it's a one-way street - surely Sky use "Digital Cable" in their promotions.

They actually use 'NTL-Virgin', presumably in an attempt to bring back memories of the old, clunky, rip-off NTL service.

At the risk of being faceatious (I'd trust Branson over Murdoch any day) - as opposed to the current, clunky Virgin service? Wink

Presumably a caption reading 'Virgin 1 starts at 9PM'?

The BBC don't (well they shouldn't, but a few programmes do) mention 'Sky' in that way either as the BBC broke away from Sky several years ago
