Maybe. It could be that Challenge is being closed in its current form and the name (despite it not being a major brand, it is better than Channel One) used for what is currently called Channel One.
Pointless rebrand then

I can't see them simply renaming Channel One to challenge, the brand is associated with gameshows mainly. I wouldn't be surprised if they go back down the Quiz TV route (The original Challenge was pretty much the place where that kind of phone-in quiz tv started).
I'm slightly surprised they've decided to keep Challenge over Bravo, I bet those on Challenge's forums will be pleased, last time I looked they were moaning that Bravo had taken challenges budget.

As long as most of the programmes from Virgin1 and bravo end up on Sky 3 at least,
I dare say Chuck will end up on sky one

Ditto this. The cinematic start-up presentation was, imo, very best at the time.
Can't say I'm surprised about Channel One, but a little sad to see Bravo go. Their presentation in the early 90's was sensational.

The Liverpool Daily Post and Echo's cable television service was called Channel One.
I guess that shut.
Not much of a trace of it online. Found this:

God, I remember that! Disappeared one day without a trace on Telewest. I do remember there being slides put up every so often saying something along the lines of "Unfortunately Channel One Liverpool is closing shortly. Thank you to our loyal viewer over the years" which, as you can see, included an unfortunate spelling mistake.

Challenge has been totally run down recently, it definitely seems that VMTV were looking to shut the channel down. I am concerned that Challenge will simply become an outlet for Sky Bet. I'd hope they'd at least do a "Challenge 2" or whatever (which could remain pay-TV) following the present format.

I'm not pleased with this news, considering Sky3 is sh*t and Channel One has some fairly decent shows like Home Improvement and The Fresh Prince. The only way for this to turn out good (for my own personal standards) is if Challenge reverts back to its good days with live in-vision along with a general sense of care for the channel, and if Channel One's programming is relocated.
That's more or less what Challenge Jackpot is for.
