I found the TV in the morning to be quite awful, though it was just on in the background.

One funny bit was Jon Sopel on News 24 . After a report from a correspondant in Basra with the British Troops, during which there was a bit of a food fight in the background, Jon Sopel said quite seriously, "Shortly after that report was recorded, one of the cameramen was hit by a flying mince pie"!!! Laughing

Things kicked off for me properly with TOTP - the first time I'd seen it. What a huge disappointment! Andi Peters has done NOTHING to improve the show at all, save a pretty new logo. The bloke who presents it is the most wooden thing I've seen! He just reads the autocue like a robot. Is he just on coz he's sleeping with Andi Peters!

Then the usual tradition of the Queen's Speech . It's getting better each year, and I think this year is the first time the BBC's produced it for a few years. They've obviously borrowed a few ideas from itv, but done them better. The speech itself was very good, about teamwork etc - a good message there.

Then it was Dale Winton's version of Noel's Christmas Presents. Complete pap of course, but a few nice stories! Awww!

The highlight of the day was De Fleidermaus by JS Strauss on BBC Two. I know opera's not everyone's thing, but I like it, and this was lighthearted, funny stuff, just right for Christmas Day. Got me singing and laughing along, and it was an excellent production - far better than some kid's film on BBC One!

After that Parkie . This was OK, no more than that. Shouldn't have had Ozzie Osbourne on as this made it obvious it was recorded.

No idea what was on after this as I'd had too much wine, port, and Laphroaig by this point!

The BBC and ITN take turns in producing The Queen's Christmas Speech.

It can't be as cut and dried as that because I definately remember ITN doing it in 2001. I didn't watch it last year, but this year it was done by the BBC, so it can't alternate exactly.

What always intrigues me is that whenever the BBC do it, they don't use the copyright symbol at the end. Such as this year it just ended with 'BBC MMIII'. It's the only part of their output where they do this. Does this mean that they don't own any rights to the production and thus can't copyright it?

Well from what I've heard the Royals have more rights over the speech than the BBC or ITN. As apparently they're not allowed to show the speech at all after Christmas for some reason no matter who it is made by.

Though it was very odd on Christmas Day when I saw that BBC MMIII on ITV.

Sad ratings... I would have thought that Creature Comforts and or World Idol would have been in there instead of the crap that is.

World Idol?? So instead of BBC crap you'd like ITV crap? Rolling Eyes

Does Creature Comforts register on the ratings?

I thought that this was the best programme of Christmas. It was very festive, funny, and a joy to watch. I hope that they recommission it for more brand new eps next autumn!

Well the first showing was during EastEnders and the second showing during Only Fools!.

Its a pitty BARB don't let the general public see the data in full for free, instead they charge about £5,000 a year

I think BARB should either extend their sources of data to around a million, 500 000 wouldn't be bad. But at the moment, isn't it only is the 5 000's? when there are 60 million in the UK? It may cost more, but If i were a company I would put some money towards it.

What it could show is that more people watch digital TV (as there would be more of their sources watching, with each representing less.

Does anyone actually know anyone who does this for BARB?

for the first time, I didnt watch the TV at all on Christmas Day as we spent Christmas Day with family in Surrey, it was quite a change not watching TV (the only TV we did watch was the last 10 mins the World Idol replay on itv2 on Boxing Day, and I think the TV was on in the background in the hotel room late on Christmas Night, though I didnt watch it.)

Who saw the Christmas Day Editions of EastEnders?
Alfie and Kat's Wedding I think was one of the best weddings in Walford, even if they did get married in the Vic...
Kat looked stunning in that red Dress
