I think they have 1 hr specials of Em and Corrie on Xmas Day as its a tradition as far as ITV goes, although 1/2 hr of Em would have been more than enough, it was an average episode I thought - dont get me wrong I love Emmerdale but I think their best episodes will be over New Year.
With Corrie, it was an excellent episode last night, I thought.
World Idol was something a little different to the usual Pop Idol, and Millionaire although tired and boring now, it was on in teatime and late slots not really peak time.
I cant really comment on the BBC as I didnt really watch much on there (and its not just me, my family all prefer ITV1 too, although we taped Only Fools and Horses and watched TOTP)
That was probably the first Milllionaire i've seen in years - it was OK, but i suppose that was down to the "celebrity" guests, which just goes to show that the show on its own is dying on its feet IMO. But as long as it gets the viewers, ITV will keep showing it!
Coronation Street got the balance between seriousness and lightheartedness(?) IMO. EE was depressing but good as usual. All in all, it beats last years choices which included Celebrity Blind Date and A Touch of Frost repeat.
I only actually watched half an hour of tv all day. eek!
(That was My Family and was great!).
I recorded Grumpy Old Men at Christmas though - so I should be watching that later!
There wasn't much on this christmas actually - a bit disappointing!
I've no doubt OFAH was popular. But it was still flogging a dead horse; in creative terms the revival over the last 3 years has damaged the series and should never have happened. It was only ratings chasing that saw it happen.
That Outtake TV that's just been on, besides the fact that some of the clips were ancient. How long have they shown clips from non-BBC programmes on there, and also has Paul O'Grady stopped doing it now
C5 are having a night of classic sitcoms, with classics such as On The Buses (the first time in years it's made an appearance on terrestrial TV), Rising Damp, and In Sickness and In Health.
Nicely presented too with in vision links by Ronnie Corbett and frontcaps retained where they have them (odd little thing happened with Robin's Nest where there was a Thames Skyline frontcap but the original endcap replaced by a modern version).
Does anyone know if C5 have bought individual episodes of the programmes for this special, or if they have full rights to these programmes? The way Corbett has made a point of acknowledging how many episodes of each sitcom were made possibly suggests that we might get to see more of them?
EDIT - perhaps also worth noting (considering the practices in use by some broadcasters these days) that they are showing these in their original 4:3 and not trying to pretend they are widescreen by cropping them.
FURTHER EDIT - the way they've presented this material has just dropped to 8/10; they're using credit squeezing.
And also how come they are showing some 16x9 material in 14x9 - I'm sure some of it was from original widescreen productions.
I was on the phone during most of it, but don't recall seeing any clips in full widescreen - it had all been ARC'ed from 4:3, including things from News 24.
