Genuinely saddened to hear of the death of Victoria Wood today following a short battle with cancer according to her publicist.

One of my favourite Victoria Wood sketches was a send up of the then new BBC Digital channels, so hopefully there will be a suitable tributes on BBC Backstage, BBC Upmarket, BBC Downmarket, BBC Newmarket, BBC Makeover, BBC Takeover, BBC Good Old Days, BBC Wartime, BBC Daytime, BBC Teatime, BBC Braindead and BBC Knitwear.

What a horrendous year for famous people passing. This one is a genuine shock - I am lost for words.

Very sad news. Much of Victoria's work like the spoof fly on the wall documentaries in As Seen On TV was decades ahead of The Office etc. Victoria was also extremely generous with her lines, often giving the best lines in her writing to Julie Walters etc.

Hopefully Pat & Margaret will be repeated as part of the tributes, which was one of her best works.

This Gem NEVER gets a repeat, maybe as others have said its to close to the bone.

Lets Not forget Woods as great drama person, she wrote Pat and Margaret , Housewife, 49, while paying a Morecambe mother in that TV drama a few years back.

I'm dumbfounded at the loss of such a great talent. She will be missed.

Will somebody tell 2016 to pack it in!?

What horrible news. I really hope the media reiterate just how much of an impact she had not just on women in comedy, but comedy as a whole.
News96, Brekkie and London Lite gave kudos

Goodness, what a shock! Couldn't believe it when I saw this thread title. It seems TV Forum is becoming my primary news source for major deaths in the entertainment world.

Truly shocked and saddened to hear this news. The lady was nothing less than a genius. Was only thinking yesterday about The Making of Acorn Antiques and the utterly excellent dialogue she wrote for Maggie Steed. Don't think we'll see anyone who comes close to Victoria's kind again.

Who can forget Acorn Antiques, a brilliant sendup on soap operas made on the cheap (especially Crossroads).

Victoria Wood was a New Faces contestant. Safe to say she was groundbreaking for British comedy.

It seems nobody uploaded a decent quality version of this to YouTube, but in my opinion, this is a textbook example of how a comedy song should be done...

Considering GOLD did a decent job of clearing the weekend schedule for Ronnie Corbett, I won't be surprised if they do a dinnerladies marathon.
