Fantastic news. I loved the brief return to stand-up that Wood did at the end of 'Happy Birthday BAFTA' in 2007 (quite possibly her most recent comedy work?) and she still proved to be as hilarious as ever:

She did a couple of good episodes of ISIHAC on Radio 4 last month, she certainly hasn't lost her touch
I agree she was fab on ISIHAC. I'm sure she stopped " doing " her own specials because the last one was slated. And TBH I'm a big fan of hers, but I seem to remember it was a bit short on the usual laughs. I'm sure the new one will be fab though...
On tonight's One Show, she talked about the special and mentioned that there'd be a look at how the Actress who played Mrs Overall has fared after she was taken off Acorn Antiques ("She's choking on her own macaroon!") - she trials for Strictly, gets dragged around the ice by Torvil and Dean, she goes for I'm A Celebrity without realising what the show was all about and tried to give Delia some of her recipes. There's also coverage of the London Mid-Life Olympics where the events are getting a coffee without spilling it or forgetting where you are going, womens car reversing and so-on. Apparently it all finishes with a refreshed verision of "Let's Do It" with a stage full of dancers. It sounds great and I can't wait to see it.

That'll be Bo Beaumont! A nice trip down memory lane...
More details have been released in the past couple of days about Victoria Wood on the BBC this Christmas. There a section in the BBC Press Office, and a few pictures on this page. I can't help but laugh looking at that picture of Julie Walters.
So in addition to "Victoria Wood's Mid-Life Christmas" (Christmas Eve at 9pm), there will be another programme titled "Victoria Wood - What Larks!" which shows the making of this year's special. And for those of you who still remember her classic work, there will be a special programme called "Victoria Wood - Seen on TV" on BBC Two on December 21. It features interviews with Victoria herself as well as the 'usual suspects' (Walters, Imrie, Preston etc etc) and clips from "As Seen On TV", "Wood and Walters" etc. I also believe that BBC Two is repeating her Christmas special from 2000 straight afterwards, followed by a repeat of dinnerladies.
Must say I'm happy that the BBC are making such a big deal of VW this Christmas. She has been away from television comedy for far too long and I'm glad she's back!
So what did people think of the Christmas special then?
I've only just watched it on Sky+, and I'm sad to say I was quite disappointed. I didn't think the writing was up to her usual standard, and it all just seemed a bit drawn out, mediocre and not especially funny.
It seemed to rely too much on the Lark Pies to Cranchesterford bits, which were amusing in places, but not exactly hilarious. I even thought the sequences about Bo Beaumont, which I'd been looking forward to, didn't really hit the spot. She almost didn't seem tragic enough.
And where were Celia Imrie, Duncan Preston and Suzie Blake? I'd much rather have seen them than the celebrity cameos, which seemed a bit crow-barred in in places.
Maybe as a big VW fan, my expectations were too high, but she's certainly capable of much better. I hate to say it, but even All The Trimmings was funnier.
