What on Earth is going on with this COMEDY programme tonight?

It has turned into some sort of tear-jerker.

I am all in favour of supporting poverty and donating to charity, but there are surely more appropriate ways of doing it than attempting to incorporate it into a programme that is basically about a group of village idiots.

Bad idea, BBC.

Yes, it was quite out of place in the sort of show... Why not a documentary?

I couldn't agree more, to use this comedy programme tonight like they have seems very wrong - it could have at least returned to the comedy aspect with the villagers doing their version of Live Aid.

It really was an embarrasing, ill-thought out stunt to do that tonight.

Awful. I sat down to watch a comedy programme, not a charity appeal.

It felt like it was a Comic Relief special - and had it been broadcast on Red Nose Day, it'd have been fine.

Very poorly timed too, seeing as the world is raising vast, vast sums of money currently.

I think that they edited it quickly as the joke was at the begining and there wasn't any credits on it at the end.(EDIT: They got the credit on the website) Also the story line suddedlly changed.

It wasn't funny at all (except the joke).

I guess a lot of people watching that tonight wouldn't tune into a documentary (probably the argument the BBC will use) but it has had quite the reverse impact on us tonight.

Indeed the whole thing was quite bizzare I was expecting a laugh at some point and one didn't come.

And it couldn't be helped but bad timing as well, what with many people being moved by the Tsunami story. Those people tuning in for a bit of a laugh tonight will be thoughly depressed by now!

I thought it was quite disgusting. It was just one big charity advert. I'm all for donating money - but not when i'm been begged for it every minute of every day. This was no better then the hordes of people who try to guilt trip you into handing over your bank details in town when all your trying to do is make your way to WHsmith.

Yes, I'm afraid I have to agree. I have done a lot of work for charity, but it was completely out of place on The Vicar of Dibley. As someone else said, the storyline seemed to completely change. The first half was funny, but then it seemed to go downhill, not like TVOD we all know. I'm afraid to say it, but once something stops, it is never the same when you go back to it, and this is the case with TVOD.

Last weeks episode was great, this was a let down, appeals for charity have a place, but trying to integrate them as the major plot line of a comedy programme, no thank you.

There is a right way to put a message into a show, and this wasn't it. There was an episode made ages ago where she donated the money raised for the stained-glass window to an indian appeal. Now THAT is the way to do it, but this wasn't. I was a little dissapointed i'm sorry.

With respect, there are those of us who couldn't have been more moved by the shock ending, moving us into wanting to donate.

Maybe though the timing wasn't best, with the sad events in Asia and the appeals for support.
