I'll miss it. The only reason they are getting rid is because they're not getting enough money from ringtone adverts. Why can't they get rid of MTV Hits instead? It annoys me how they always get rid of the best channels, instead of all the Urban crap (Channel U - who watches that?), and replacing them with more Urban crap as they go.

Shocking. Until 2003, MTV didn't have any ringtone ads anyway. They managed to get on fine then. I think if there's one thing guaranteed to make me want to smash the TV in, it's Jamster. But thankfully their ads have been more sparse recently (not in Germany though, where whole ad breaks on MTV & Viva can be nothing but ringtone ads).

Just goes to show how dependant they are on Crazy Frog and other such monstrosities. And I think back in 2003 there wasn't as much choice anyway, MTV showed music!

I'll be very sad to see VH2 go, it's probably the only Music channel that I really like watching as it is very different and it isn't heavy unlike MTV2 and Kerrang!

The sad truth of it is that these channels have never really performed well on TV, look at it, most recently Chart Show TV and Sky take off The Amp and replace it with Bliss, which is just like Magic, and EMAP take off Q in the Evening and replace it with FHM which is just R 'n' B and any music video featuring a near naked woman in, meaning now most days Q only broadcasts between 7.00am and 4.00pm, 6.00pm on a good day.

If that is the case (confirmation would be appreciated) then it's quite frankly a ridiculous move given the current musical climate, which perfectly suits VH2. MTV2 is normally great, but sometimes a bit too alternative - Q seems to have given up and spends most of its time doing w**k-TV that is FHM - now is the perfect time for VH2 to fill in the gap.

Indie is on the rise, and beyond that, mainstream indie is on the rise, so what do MTV do? Get rid of that channel. Absolute morons - no wonder they're struggling. Hang them all.

To be fair, what with mainstream indie on the rise, a lot of it seems to be appearing on MTV Hits. VH2 has never really stood out to me, I like a lot of what they play, but I never feel inclined to watch it.

Going off on a tangent here... has anyone seen TMF Live or MTV Select yet? I keep missing them, are they any good?

In an interview with the Financial Times, MTV UK's boss said that as a whole MTV might all go the same way as Flux launching August 1st (Also mtv's 25th birthday), and the channel launching 347 on September 6th( where VH2 used to be )

Personally I think Flux will be great as from what I can gather, It's MySpace with your setlist of tracks that you and your friends can watch, then it will show your setlist for say a half an hour at random on MTV Flux

The Italian site is up http://www.mtvflux.it/it/

MTV Networks will on Monday make its biggest move into the "social networking" area, dominated by websites such as MySpace and Bebo, by unveiling plans for a television channel devoted to content created by its users.

MTV Flux will allow people to exchange messages and video clips by computer and mobile phone, much like existing social networking sites, but will allow users to choose which music videos are displayed on the channel, and display their own videos and messages alongside.

The service, which borrows from ideas trialled on websites in Japan and Italy, will launch in the UK but will be "monitored very closely" to see whether it could become a model for other markets, said Michiel Bakker, managing director of MTV in the UK and Ireland.

Its launch, to coincide with MTV's 25th anniversary on August 1, comes as the grip it once held on young media consumers in the early days of cable television is being challenged by market entrants such as YouTube and Google Video.

Mr Bakker said: "Seeing the speed at which Bebo emerged, or YouTube exploded out of nowhere, in this space we don't feel we have to be the first mover. We have to create something unique and different."

MTV Flux, which follows the launch this year of the on-demand MTV Overdrive broadband service, would be the first service to let users "influence an entire channel and upload their content to be seen in a television environment", Mr Bakker said.

The channel, which will launch on September 6, will have no traditional schedule. It will be overseen by a controller, however, to ensure it abides by broadcasting regulations and MTV will monitor all user-generated content.

The channel will carry advertising and users will not be charged for signing up to the website. Mr Bakker said MTV, which is part of Viacom, hoped Flux would "offer advertisers the chance to follow consumers around", saying advertisers had shown interest in Flux as a means of targeting the hard-to-reach 16- 24-year-old audience.

"At the end of the day, all of our channels might be Fluxed. It might be the redefinition of our television channels," he said.

Bill Roedy, vice-chairman of MTV Networks, said its acquisitions of companies such asNeoPets had made MTV "a formidable force" in user-generated content online.

Frankly I think this is the best thing to happen to MTV in a long time where Music makes a comeback and where you truely control it, a bit like a 24/7 MTV select that you control

Gone are the days when i could have a good singalong with those cheesy pop bands - i mean come on you dont need to be 9 or 10 to listen to them. Most people i know, know one cheesy song and there always played at parties, new year ect.

These "we are real bands because we play the guitar" are getting on my nerves, there has been an influx of them, loads of them - the Top 40 is rubbish now, stoped listening when Mark Goodier finished doing it. Dont get me wrong i dont mind some songs from Keane, Coldplay and a few others, but a lot of them really do think they are something special.

Sorry to rant on, i dont think many will notice VH2 going - i mean what is there..about 20odd music channels plus hundreds of radio stations to listen too.

You aren't serious are you? Theres loads of channels devoted to crap pop, but hardly any with decent music on. Obviously you sound like a person who prefers end to end covers with people prancing about on stage who can't play an instrument and can hardly sing over a proper song written and composed by a band who can play instruments. Kerrang and MTV2 aren't my cup of tea as some of the stuff they play is abysmal as it is harder rock than VH2, but the likes of Oasis, The Stone Roses, Blur etc (who aren't on Kerrang and MTV2 because they prefer the likes of Linkin Park etc) have lost pretty much the final place to hear that music outside of chart appearances at different intervals. Thats the reason why i'm annoyed. Yes, there are 20 odd music channels, but they either play chart songs or old tunes. Now, we're left with Q for half the day when most are at work. No wonder TOTP is being axed, its been caught up with boy bands and pop nonsense for too long, and hasn't been good since the Britpop era of the mid 90's.

Oh dear. So it seems this channel is going to be filled with plenty of sub broadcast quality videos taken on mobile phones alongside the music videos? Why? Just why?

MTV is monitoring it heavily so it won't be friends filming themselves on Moblles, oh and you'll be able to access it on your mobile too

i'll miss vh2, but i feel that mtv2 sort of feels the void. basically, vh2 was a lot of old, indie music, which is occasionally shown on mtv2 during the marathons. however, i admit i havn't watched vh2 for a long time, so i won't miss it tooo much.
