It's sad to see music channels go this way, but I struggle to think of any uses for them other than for gyms and leisure centres, assuming they haven't just switched to a DAB station. As others have said, anyone wanting music videos or particular playlists have them all at their disposal thanks to Spotify and YouTube, often in much better quality.
Melody TV in France seems to have the right way in producing a classic music channel. They don't just play the same videos on a loop, there are specialist programmes, alongside classic variety shows and movies based around music.
They also charge 2.50€ for access to the live stream and replay online, so there's a steady revenue stream coming in.
I have been waiting for them to do this for a long time, I can imagine a HD port coming soon and VH1 originals (such as Drag Race, America’s Next Top Model and their catalog of reality TV) being moved there. It seems to be the less sleazy version of current MTV. Actually looking forward to it.
I don’t think that would happen. Moving all content to one channel. I always get annoyed when Comedy Central never uses all of their programming to their own UK version, instead opting for repeats of the same programmes and movies, even if their programming never gets imported to any other broadcasters in this country. We’ll get Another Period straight away, but we didn’t get to see a viral, and completed, hit like Nathan for You until recently in a rubbish slot. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2017-11-08/nathan-for-you-uk-review/amp/
Even with the likes of Youtube music videos don't seem to be the thing they were a decade or two ago, probably because they don't have the TV outlet they once did, both in terms of music channels and also getting premiere on the big TV music and kids shows either. Yes, there is the odd breakout video, but with music being so instant now the music video seems like a less important part of the package.
I guess the Kardashians really did kill the video star.

The gym near where I work seems to have a choice of BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, and Sky News. It's always good to get a preview of the night's Chaser.

At least something has been done with the channel. VH1 has felt neglected for many years. It was claimed many years ago reading in The Sunday Times that its budget had been slashed to £400,000 a year.
I remember at launch the presentation looked so clean and streamlined compared to the nosier approach of MTV Europe.

That would be about 2002/2003 when the emphasis switched to celebrity shows and documentaries from the US channel. Some time later the budget was cut completely, leaving a neglected service of only music videos until the current relaunch.
Despite being 'relaunched' as an entertainment channel last week, VH1 is still being sold as a music channel on Sky and Virgin Media. It is also still the the Music section of the EPG on Virgin Media. No social media accounts for the channel have been setup either.

Great work Viacom
MTV was still in the music section of the EPG for a few years after it increasingly became an entertainment channel in the late 2000s, until MTV Music launched in 2011.
