Is it me or is the studio/set much smaller than in Antan Dec's run? Seems very close to the audience and not quite as wide.

The set does look an awful lot smaller. Having been to the recording of this Saturday's show, they seem to have installed the 'flats' (the wall with the flashing squares) VERY close to the camera line, but the span of the flats is VERY wide - it's not often I see them going wall-to-wall in Studio 1 these days but this one does. Making it look on-screen as horizontally wide but very narrow in depth because, of course, it is.

Apart from the large screen used for graphics and inserts and the area behind being used to display prizes, very little of the space behind the flats was used. I do wonder if perhaps all the various logo boards (for the sides of the auditorium) and props for the various shows are all being stored at the rear of the stage area, hence why so much of it has been 'walled off', so to speak.

how will it work with Blanklty blank? a BBC one logo?

According to Wikipedia 'twas produced by Thames when it moved to ITV in 2001. I guess that week they'll have lots of BBC clips but just won't bother with a frontcap.

Well, I'm sure that the ITV/Lily Savage version of Blankety Blank actually had a Grundy endcap. But seeing as "talkbackTHAMES" (as it now is) is also owned by Grundy's owners, Fremantle, I guess that Fremantle can use any of their brands on any programme if they want. Therefore I expect they'll use the classic 1970s/80s Thames "skyline" ident on the Blankety Blank episode of VKGSM.

But wouldn't that be historically inaccurate...? Don't be surprised if no ident aired for this particular programme...

No less inaccurate than the YTV frontcap used for The Price Is Right!

Erm, hardly a spoiler when it's been known for weeks and posted on page 1 of the thread.

Indeed. They go for a compromise on GSM.

For example, the "Take Your Pick" episode of Ant & Dec's GSM series...

As far as I'm aware, TYP originally ran in the 1950s/60s, and was still made in black-&-white when it originally ended. By the time it came back in the 1990s, with Des O'Connor as host, ITV had long-since scrapped the opening production animation thingies (and, even if they hadn't, it would've been the "triangular" Thames logo by then).

Ant & Dec's TYP used the 19 70 s, colour Thames "skyline" ident at the start! And the title title sequence used was from the first 1990s/Des series (because it was the earliest ever colour title sequence for TYP)!!!

So, that's an ident from a decade in which the programme didn't exist, mis-matched with a not particularly "vintage" title sequence.

So, they're not interested in being slavishly accurate, just finding the best compromise.

Be grateful that they're doing the whole "vintage idents" thing at all. There's no reason why they HAVE to bother, so don't complain!

Pleasantly surprised by the Yorkshire ident, I thought they'd do away with that as it was an ITV50 nostalgia type thing.

I did wonder whether or not they'd bother showing an old ITV frontcap at the start of part 2, just like you I thought they only did it for Ant and Dec's Gameshow Marathon in autumn 2005 as part of the ITV50 celebrations.

I noticed the Yorkshire frontcap for The Price Is Right this time, just like in Ant and Dec's version about 18 months ago. Both times I was miffed as to why they used a 70s style Yorkshire Television frontcap considering that The Price Is Right was made by CENTRAL, not Yorkshire in the 1980s (Leslie Crowther's days). However today I noticed from some other site that Yorkshire did make Bruce Forsyth's Price Is Right in the 1990s. Presumably that's why they used a Yorkshire ident in the two Gameshow Marathon editions (autumn 2005 and now).

I suppose they'll have a Central ident for Blockbusters tomorrow. Wait and see.

I did wonder about that, perhaps a 70s/80s BBC1 globe if the BBC would allow it. However I've since seen it was made by Thames after it moved to ITV, so I now guess it'll be a 70s/80s style Thames ident.

On a unrelated note:

I can pay £1 to enter the Marathon competition with a huge prize package on offer (Easily in 5 figures) or I can pay the same money for my chance to win £1000 on Millionaire!

Not that I'll be doing either, but it does seem weird how these competitions operate!

£1 seems to be the standard amount to enter these competitions these days.

At the end of The Price Is Right, the prize mountain consisted of 21 prizes, including two cars and two holidays. To think that it was intended to be won by just ONE entrant. Too much for one, I think. What would one person do with all that lot?

I noticed the lorry loads of prizes during Ant and Dec's Gameshow Marathon 18 months ago.
