Getting back to last week's Play Your Cards Right, I noticed that in the
Prize Cards
game, the contestants won (well, for the prize mountain) the full set of prizes that were listed at the start of the game, i.e.
Garden tools
Nokia M95 mobile phone (incorporating a computer, camera, and sat nav)
Remote controlled shower
His and hers Canon IXUS digital cameras
Holiday to Rio de Janiero
Mitsubishi Convertible Turbo car
When Bruce Forsyth presented the show, you only won the highest value prize corresponding to the number of points you had. For example, if you had 4000+ points, and got the jackpot question right, and ...
a) turned over the final card correctly, won the car.
b) incorrectly turned over the final card, won the holiday (next prize down).
Fewer than 4000 points won you a prize lower down the list, depending how many you had. Remember, "the more points you get, the bigger prize you get". Once back in the early eighties, the couple taking part in "Prize Cards" didn't have enough points for the car, but they had a music centre (I think that was mid-way through the list). But still, they only had ONE prize - the stereo, not the stereo AND whatever was below it.
Surely the Gameshow Marathon edition of Play Your Cards Right should have resembled the real thing as closely as possible, should it not? Or was winning the car AND everything below it on this occasion just an exercise to get as much as possible into the prize mountain for one lucky viewer to win?
