Good to see a Border ident but a shame it wasnt HTV!

Why would you rather have had a HTV ident for Mr and Mrs last Saturday? (Just a reminder, sometimes it was made by Border, sometimes by HTV).

Let's assume an HTV ident would have been the HTV "aerial" used from early 1970s to around 1987. You'd then have heard the accompanying jingle:

Wall-all newl-all wah wea-wah

Is that why you'd have preferred HTV to Border?

Anyone vaguely remember 'Three Little Words' ?

That was HTV wasn't it?

Wasn't it presented by Ray Alan of '& Lord Charles' fame?

Dunno what happened to Ray Alan, but hasn't Lord Charles become the leader of the Tories now? Laughing

I think it's because Jez lives in the HTV region. Likewise I'm sad that we won't get to see a Tyne Tees ident but it's nice to see the regional idents all the same (makes a change, ITV respecting its history Wink )

In a word yes. HTV havent made that many programmes for the ITV Network so the chances of having a HTV ident on Gameshow Marathon in future series is slim.

Plus as was pointed out im in the HTV region!

I hear what you say. Trouble is, Border didn't make that many programmes for the ITV network either. Wasn't it just as great that the unthinkable happened last Saturday, seeing a 70s/80s style BORDER TELEVISION ident (albeit stretched) on present day ITV1 - within Gameshow Marathon?

I remember "Three Little Words". That was definitely made by HTV, the West half I think. Can't remember whether it was networked or just shown in the HTV region.

HTV also made a gameshow "Definition". I think that was only in the HTV region, not on the network.

Who knows, if they ever do another series of "Gameshow Marathon", they could put in "Three Little Words" and feature the HTV "aerial" ident at the start of part 2.

I doubt it since they never recreate the most recent versions of sets. Besides, to do it properly they need to have the audience in front of the camera and it wasn't possible last time around.

Absolutely. However after growing up watching HTV Cymru Wales I obviously have much more enthusiasm for HTV idents than for Border!

My favourite HTV idents were the aerial ones, wasnt as keen on the idents between 1993-1999, then when the hearts idents came along I loved those idents. I especially liked the 1989 HTV ident as seen here.

Back in the mid to late 1970s, Westward TV produced a game show called "Treasure Hunt". N.B. That had no connection with the longer programme "Treasure Hunt" on Channel 4, with Kenneth Kendall and Anneka Rice from 1982 onwards.

Format
The Westward "Treasure Hunt" was intended to fit into a 30 minute slot (actually it was shorter to allow for ads).

A game involved two players. They would answer questions, and move so far along a trail for each correct answer (a sequence of lights would illuminate). They also won money for each correct answer.

The first of the two to reach the shoreline had the chance to win a bonus £50 from Jethro. He had three bells, one had a ball under it. He shuffled them around and you won the bonus £50 if you correctly guessed which bell contained the ball.

The first to reach £50 from questions (EXCLUDING the bonus from Jethro if won) was the winner, who had the chance to play for the Treasure Trove.

In that case, you were asked a "Treasure Trove" question under the spotlight, and if you were right, you won a little treasure chest containing £100 cash.

If you were wrong, the £100 jackpot was rolled over to the next game, repeatedly until someone won. I remember it going up to £200 or £300 sometimes, and once I think it went to £500 before being won.

Sometimes neither player made it to the target of £50 within the total time allowed for one game, in that case neither player was allowed to try for the Treasure Trove, and hence the Treasure Trove jackpot rolled over in the same way.

Does anyone else from the Westward region of the time remember this show. It went out on weekday evenings around 7pm to 7:30pm. To the best of my knowlege, it was only ever shown in the Westward region, I don't think it was EVER shown on the ITV network.

I'd like to see this feature in a future series of Gameshow Marathon, and hopefully we'd get a Westward TV ident at the start of part 2. Now wouldn't that be great?

Yes, that's right. It's on ITV1 (I1) from 6:55pm to 8pm this evening. Honestly, how the start time of Gameshow Marathon has varied from week to week this time around. Why couldn't ITV1 have kept to the same time each week?

In case you miss it, it's being repeated on ITV2 (I2) twice tomorrow: 9:35am to 10:45am, and 5:50pm to 7pm.
