So I was flicking through Flickr and saw the following photograph from the Pebble Mill page:

The top bank of buttons are on a Connolly Systems Network Symbol Control, with a note on them to say no longer in use (I assume this worked as a Laserdisc player, and at some stage the LD has died and VERA replaced it).

I tried to read some of the buttons and I can see two with 'CLOCK' written on them, one with 'BBC' and the rest I'm struggling with.

Was this piece of equipment standard across all English Regions and what options did it have on it? I assume the two clock buttons summon the clock for BBC 1 and 2, but what did the BBC button do? (There's an additional bank of buttons under the tape saying use Vera written on it)

All,regions Nations and NTA had the same panel ......
and I cannot remember what the BBC button did
The large 6*3 was what the laserdisc did
The next one was the text overlaid the disc
I.e the logo Gen. with a different prom for each region
And the top row above the clock
Include the 888 for subtitles .

We had the Connolly panel in our analogue Con suite in Belfast, with a range of BBC One symbols. Then when you switched the suite to control BBC Two the Connolly panel switched to the other laser disc player with all the 2s on it. Of course there were more symbols than buttons to assign them to, so some had to be played off tape.

The same (Bill) Connolly Systems that built C4's first automation system in 1982 I think

Did the BBC button add the logo at the bottom of the symbol? The button underneath looks like it says 'blank' the one to the left possibly selects 'BBC Midlands'?

Presumably the Anthem one was for certain "events"?

The balloons ident with the national anthem was used for all of 6 weeks! Seems interesting it still had a button assigned to it for years afterwards.

I assume Valley meant a royal death. Diana died just before the Balloon look and the Queen Mother died just after Rhythm & Movement launched so if it was also intended for this purpose, it was never used in that fashion.
