Unless they brought back Opportunity Knocks - that *technically* started in 1949.
Huh, never realised that started on BBC Radio.

Yep, although it wasn't on the BBC for very long, before ITV it was on Radio Luxembourg

Ooh Jack Whitehall. He'd be great. He'd attract a younger audience. Jimmy Carr, no thanks. Bradley Walsh, no thanks. Brydon, maybe.

For some reason, I can imagine ITV doing something silly and getting someone like Anton du Beke to host. He reminds me of Forsyth.

Jeremy Paxman?

Is there a particular reason you'd prefer Jeremy Paxman over Bradley Walsh, for example? Bradley Walsh seems like the ideal candidate on paper - he's likeable, he can get laughs, he wouldn't overshadow the acts, and he's a professional. Jeremy Paxman is divisive, has done no light entertainment work that I can think of, wouldn't be someone I imagine introducing every act as if he liked them, and has little to no experience with anything but serious presenting.

ITV would never pick Anton du Beke for a variety of reasons; Jack Whitehall isn't an ITV face, so would be very unlikely - same with Rob Brydon (though he'd be someone I would enjoy).

Think you might be experiencing an irony bypass on this one, but that said, Paxman has had a stand-up show at Edinburgh this year.

To me, there's a difference between a interviewer-cum-raconteur, or a stand-up comedian, and a variety compère - I took it as a left-field suggestion that often crops up on TV Forum during these times of speculation. If they wanted to go the ironic route, then Jack Dee would fit much better - though I seriously doubt it.

I tend to base my sarcasm meter on who's posting, though I think I mixed ASO up with another member who's made lots of odd suggestions for presenters in the past.

This was revived in 2000 hosted by Brucie but it tanked in the ratings. I think it has the potential to do well now however.

Didn't Peter Simon use the Palladium theme when closing Bid TV for the night?

He most certainly did.

Below is the actual theme:

Amazon has a (slightly glitched) version for digital download for 79p

Is it me or does the music jump on the Amazon version?

Yes, there's a glitch in the middle, which was annoying when I bought the track (I managed to remove it in the end - it didn't appear to destroy any of the track).
