ITV have made the decision to revive Sunday Night at the London Palladium...

Personally, I think this is a fantastic decision. I've been calling out for a proper variety show to come back for ages. I just hope they can pull this off.

It better not be filled up with bloody X factors or singers..

I suspect commercial incentives behind this. lends itself to an Act - Ad Break repetition style, Odds on a 90min show with 6 breaks would seem very low.

Great news!

As long as the presenter is not one of ITV's usual suspects. As long as it's someone different but noteworthy, and suitable.

According to The Sun, comics such as Rob Brydon, Jimmy Carr, Bradley Walsh and Jack Whitehall have signed up to host the show.

Ooh Jack Whitehall. He'd be great. He'd attract a younger audience. Jimmy Carr, no thanks. Bradley Walsh, no thanks. Brydon, maybe.

For some reason, I can imagine ITV doing something silly and getting someone like Anton du Beke to host. He reminds me of Forsyth.

Jeremy Paxman?

Ha, ITV couldn't possibly have gone any further back into the archives than this - a show which originally started in 1955 - it was in the launch schedule!

Unless they brought back Opportunity Knocks - that *technically* started in 1949.

You need a stand up comedian really, for a true compere role. Somebody who can keep the audience entertained indefinitely while the set change behind the curtain goes wrong - particularly if it's going to be live.

John Bishop, Peter Kay, David Walliams, Michael Mckintyre have all compered the Royal Variety in recent years - albeit the likes of Phillip Schofield and Kate Thornton have done it in previous years, and even Parky.

Sunday Night has been back and forth on ITV ever since the proper run finished in the 60s, so its return isn't really surprising!

As I recall, one of the show's later variants was where Tommy Cooper met his maker in the 1980's.

Regardless, they've got to get Sir Bruce to host at least one edition of the show, and bring back Beat The Clock!

Huh, never realised that started on BBC Radio.

That would be Live from Her Majesty's. I don't know if that and Live from the Piccadilly were direct successors but they were definitely in the same vain as the Palladium.
