Did anyone see UTV's update cap at the end of Emmerdale, I was shocked! It looks so awful, did anyone manage to get a screen shot of it? Didn't have any graphics apart from the UTV logo shoved at the top, just boring plan text.
Plus will UTV follow on with the Networks Promo graphics (Advertising a Programe) I really dont think they will make any themselves, even if they do, I'll be scared to look at them. Or they might just have some text at the bottom saying the name of the programe and the time its on, with no graphics - Wouldn't put it past UTV!
This isn't exactly entirely related to the original topic, but oh well. I've watched a bit of UTV recently through Sky and I've got a few questions:
- If they're going to use a 'generic' (graphical) ident all the time, why not use the black one that came with their set of location idents instead of that crap extended 2002 break-bumper (or "Big Blue" as it seems to be known here)?
- If they've still got their own local team of continuity announcers, why the hell do they not use them in the daytime? 'Clean' idents belong on a TV presentation website, *not* on-screen!
- If they've still got their own transmission centre (or whatever you call it), why are there so many cock-ups, especially now that they have a network feed with only the programmes burned onto it?
- If they could produce such nice graphics and promos/endboards in the 1990s, why can't they do so now? It would look at least marginally better if the purple in the logo was reverted to blue - at least then the logo would fit in with the blue colour of the promos that UTV takes from the network, and of course the infamous "Big Blue"...
- Why have they spoilt those nice location idents with that old 2002 celebrity music? Surely the idents would be much better with the music from the old, pre-celebrity location idents that they had? And if they insist on using the celebrity music from 2002, why not use more than one variant of it? There are 5 to choose from!
What do you do if you need to make a participant trawl for the new series of "Mike and Lynda's Home Sweet Home" but can't be bothered making up a new graphic?
Use the weather graphics of course! You'd need to make some lame joke about the "outlook" at the beginning of the promo to get away with it, but hey, that's Mike's forté...
