......Or how about ITV PLC take over UTV, scrap the name, rebrand to ITV1 NI and then we will have continuity all day long!
"Now on ITV1 Northern Ireland with feminist views which some viewers may find upsetting its Loose Women!"
Or why doesn’t UTV ask the network to do continuity for daytime on UTV? It may not be an Irish accent on UTV but at least its continuity??
...but hang on, come to think of it, UTV's idents sometimes only last 2 seconds, so it will be hard to find announcements into that time slot?? (but then again they do sometimes last for about 20 secs with a long and painful freeze at the end!!!

Right, time for another no-daytime-continuity-on-UTV rant.
Given that for the past two days there have been necessary schedule changes during the daytime, the need for UTV to have live daytime continuity has become more than apparent. It is ridiculous BBC Norn Irn can have at least four announcers working shifts before anyone starts their duty shift at Havelock House for their now minimised tasks thanks to over-repeated trailers and money-grabbing competitions.
There are people out there who would be more than willing and happy to do such a job on television - for a few people, it is probably their dream job. So why are Ulster Television putting their increased profits in the bank before providing a decent television service for all of their broadcasting time during the day?
A review of UTV's continuity team is urgently needed. This situation has gone on for nearly 10 years and while most viewers don't care, some of us find it unacceptable.
And yes, if you want me to help, take me on. I may be an ugly fat gay Taig with mental health problems but I feel I can still do the job to the best of my ability.

does Now one else found it Strange that both STV and utv both run a Wacth 2 win cash prize segment?

I think since all of England and Wales have ITV plc as their controller then so should Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Is it me or is UTV the only ITV region who constantly ignore the ITV Network, never ever give promotion of GMTV & have constantly rearranged the 5pm weeknight slot to their own liking.
Look at what the did to Paul O'Grady Show, Richard Hammond's Show, The Sharon Osbourne Show when they were on at 5pm on all ITV1 regions except of course UTV!!
What differences would you make to the channel?

No the bloody well shouldn't! We in the SMG regions get Scottish announcer, which just makes it feel more homely. I guess it's like that in NI as well. UTV never promote GMTV as they had a bit fight years ago, as UTV had to break into the channel for breaking news, and GMTV terminated their contract to provide regional bulletins.

1. Revamp UTV's presentation department - take on new full-time announcers to cover daytime shifts and definitely make more use of in-vision continuity, not just the sole domain of Julian.
2. Invest more in regional programming - apart from UTV Live, there only seems to be RPM on at the moment, I'd like to see UTV make more documentary series, or following the other ITV regions in having a weekly politics show (bring back The Issue) and a weekly football show every Thursday night, perhaps also more series to cater for a younger audience.

So does that mean that UTV don't have local news bulletins during GMTV? What do they have instead?

A company called Macmillan Media now produces three bulletins at 6.35, 7.05 and 8.05. The same company have been awarded the contract to make the Scottish news bulletins from September this year, due to GMTV not renewing STV's contract.

Typical - Julian isn't on duty tonight, so we have Robin Taylor out-of-vision - and shame, as he sounds like he's on jolly good form tonight.
If I was a UTV announcer (as if that would ever happen...), I'd be well p***ed off that one member of staff has carte blanche to do in-vision links, but none of the others, whether they are willing to or want to, are now denied the chance.
I draw your attention to a paragraph on this page: http://www1.u.tv/utv_whatson/programmes/utvlife/feature.asp?epis_id=100159&feat_id=100231
"Julian in particular has, it seems, rescued the art of in-vision continuity from the historical TV scrap heap - his Corrie intros have achieved legendary status and become something of a cult on You Tube [sic]."
UTV seem proud of the fact they still run IVC - so why don't they let their other announcers enjoy the fame and the chance to display their talents on-screen as Julian does? Or is a limited salvage job not enough?

Two stories on u.tv that I thought you might be interested in...
I wonder when we'll see them use the new tagline, I presume they'll make a promo or something to advertise it. How long has the 'UTV is your TV' line lasted for? Quite a while I would think. Good news about the website as well, it's about time it got a revamp what with the mixture of two designs it's got going on at the minute!
The other story, which sounds quite good is:
Actually, as I post this they're showing a feature about this on UTV Live. I'm recording it so I'll post it soon!

It's all about you this summer on UTV
UTV has just launched it's summer schedule along with the station’s new strapline ‘UTV – It’s all about U’ .
With two new series – Ultimate Ulster and UTV Rewind, and the return of firm favourites – Lesser Spotted Ulster and Jenny Bristow – there is a wealth of local programmes lined up for viewers in the coming months.
Michael Wilson, Head of Television said: “UTV is by far the most watched channel in Northern Ireland attracting a massive 54% more viewers in peaktime than our nearest competitor.
"The success of UTV is simple, we listen to our viewers and make programmes that cater for their tastes.
“For many years now ‘UTV is Your TV’ has served us well, but the time is now right to re-brand, although the focus remains the same – you the viewer – whether you watch our programmes on UTV or online on www.u.tv hence our new group strapline ‘UTV – It’s all about U’.”
Frank Mitchell presents the original guide to Northern Ireland as chosen by our viewers in Ultimate Ulster.
In this 10 part series Frank travels the length and breadth of the country to count down the top 10 places to visit; eat, drink and be merry; while away a day, or indeed be romantic; along with the most desirable places to live and stay; best buildings and landmarks; public parks and gardens.
There’s hardly a place in Northern Ireland that wasn’t suggested, but you’ll have to watch UTV from Thursday 19 July at 19.30 to find out what UTV viewers chose as their ultimate top 10.
Joe Mahon’s back with another series of Lesser Spotted Ulster by Westway Productions in which he takes to the byways that lead to the beautiful but often overlooked nooks and crannies of our countryside.
Along the way in this 10 part series, Joe visits Torr Head in Co Antrim; Co Fermanagh’s Lough Erne; the village of Newbliss in Co Monaghan and Donegal Bay.
Lesser Spotted Ulster is one of UTV’s most popular regional programmes out performing anything the network shows in its slot and returns on Tuesday 31 July at 19.30.
Julian Simmons takes a nostalgic look back over UTV’s extensive archive in a brand new six part series - UTV Rewind which starts on UTV on Friday 27 July at 20.00.
UTV Rewind will not only have viewers reminiscing about days gone by but will provide a few laughs and tears as Julian delves deep into the vaults to uncover gems almost 50 years old.
Later in the year, Jenny Bristow travels stateside to discover the flavours of New England in Jenny Bristow USA showing viewers how to cook up tasty American dishes including traditional pumpkin pie, blueberry buttermilk pancakes, Thanksgiving turkey and butterflied leg of lamb.
Plus Jenny’s new book which accompanies the series will hit the shelves in the run up to Christmas.
UTV believes in supporting community projects and this summer sees the first TV screening of Agnes, a documentary-drama starring Bronagh Gallagher which tells the story of Irish nursing pioneer Agnes Jones.
Written by Felicity McCall, this is the first production by North West independent Ambient Light Productions supported by the Greater Shantallow Community Arts which will be shown on UTV on Monday 13 August at 22.00.
Michael Wilson said: “Over the coming months, our website www.u.tv will undergo a major transformation and you’ll soon be able to watch most of our output online.
That, along with improved news, sport and entertainment information, will make u.tv a regular part of our viewers online experience.
“From news to sport and documentaries to entertainment, on-air and online – it`s all about U this summer on UTV.”

Go down memory lane with UTV
This summer sees the launch of UTV Rewind, an exciting new UTV series hosted by the one and only Julian Simmons.
UTV Rewind is the culmination of months of searching through the dusty dark vaults of UTV.
Some of the fascinating archive footage uncovered hasn’t seen the light of day for over 40 years!
LARRY DAHLING
Legendary actor Sir Laurence Olivier was the first face to grace the station when on October 31, 1959 at 4.30pm he introduced the people of Northern Ireland to their new channel.
He promised an evening of music, drama and entertainment in the form of A Fiddle and a Flute and Old Souls Night a drama starring Joseph Tomelty from Portaferry.
JULIAN GETS NOSTALGIC
The station has gone through many transformations from those early days and Julian will take the viewers on a tele-visual trip down memory lane when, in his inimitable style, he turns back the clock on the past 40 odd years of UTV’s archives beginning on Friday July 27th at 8pm on UTV.
Music, sport, news, weather and comedy are some of the themes of the series.
The programmes feature familiar faces who started out on the station and have now gone onto bigger things including Eamonn Holmes, Gloria Hunniford and Andrea Catherwood.
LEADING LIGHTS
You’ll also get the chance to see some of the biggest names from the world of showbusiness such as Billy Connolly, Elton John and Abba in their earliest incarnations.
Plus there will be a chance for viewers to get reacquainted with some of their favourite UTV programmes including The Irish RM, Good Evening Ulster, McGilloway’s Way and The Romper Room.
