Also in that UTV Life statement, it says the following:

UTV Life posted:
As news is at the heart of our local schedule, viewers can look forward to even more news this autumn as we plan to extend our late nightly bulletin at 10.55pm.

Yes they've mentioned that a few times recently but I'm not sure how they're going to implement it without screwing up the rest of the schedule. Surely they then wouldn't be able to show any networked programmes that were starting at 11pm?

They could show network programmes on a delay. STV done that quite a few times at Christmas.

Or they may drop trails or adverts to make the late bulletin last longer, which is more likely than time-shifting... but we shall see when it happens.

The trails have now started for the new competition featured in that UTV Life magazine: UTV Autumn Driveaway. Looks quite nice, seems they're putting a bit more effort into the presentation of their competitions now.

Some things worth mentioning today! Firstly we had an outing of the Programme Change caption before the ITV News Special earlier due to the cancellation of UTV Life:

Secondly, do UTV not own a spell checker??

And finally, the latest of UTV's special idents; tonight we had one advertising the Ireland rugby game on Sunday:

I love the rugby idents. That's clever, how they got their U in there.

There would have been two outings for the Programme Change caption last night, what with the South Bank Pavarotti documentary.

I wonder if Julian was around at 5 to provide a live link into the ITV News "Special" or if the programme change links are also now pre-recorded...

Yes Julian did a voiceover into the ITV News Special over that Programme Change slide but later on he just did an in-vision link in the Pavarotti programme.

Noooo.... Big Blue!

That ident (without the "Programme Change" bit) introduced all UTV programmes for far too long IMO... of course, its really an adaption of the 2002 ITV1 breakbumper. I thought it had gone forever by now though...

Now that I've come round after fainting, I thought I should just tell you all that UTV just had LIVE continuity during DAYTIME! I'm shocked! Shocked And it was a new male voice as well!

Not guilty, sadly. I've a feeling it might be Maurice Jay or someone else from U105, they mustn't have been able to get Julian to take time off from the travel shop.

Maybe things are starting to change at last for UTV - two new announcers so far this year, new idents, two half-decent series - whatever next?

Re: my hatred of Arial, I think it looks cheap and tacky on screen, and shows little effort or imagination put into creating the graphic - never mind the fact it's a Microsoft invention... just think that UTV seem to have the Helvetica/Swiss family at hand, why can't they just take the second or two to switch to it than use the probable default of Arial instead?

Looks like we may get a look at our new continuity announcer tonight. Julian just said that someone called Mark will be presenting the late UTV News tonight.

EDIT: Finally got round to uploading some of the new announcer's links from earlier this week: clicky

New male announcer: the voice is familiar, I'm sure I've heard it somewhere before.

According to Julian the other day, 'Mark' would be back with the late news at 10.55 that evening - first name terms, apparently.

Wink

I wasn't sure whether 'Mark's' voice seemed familiar or, more likely, just sameish.

Confused:
