It's just been reported on BBC Breakfast that UlsterTV has made an offer of over 400 Million for Scottish Media Group.
Do you think Ulster will be successful this time, they haven't in the past. They plan on merging the assets of SMG into Ulster. Wonder what they plan to do with them?

They tried before and were turned down so this time with more financial invetigation with other groups taking place, they could be successful, however, they went for TV3 in Ireland but got turned down, so they're used to rejection.

If they do get to merge, don't expect any on air change, and dont expect it to become UTV/SMG or anything like that, as they also own alot of other UK based stations and when they bought them eg Talk Sport, they didn't rename it to UTV.

Interesting to note that they already own a couple of stations in Scotland, so getting a merger of sorts with SMG would from a business point of view be a good move, and again make themselves more ripe and profitable, allowing the idea of a takeover in a year or twos time of the remainder of SMG even more possible.

But if viewers in Northern Ireland start seeing a giant blue U-bend shaped thing being passed between grinning monsters... Laughing

Never mind all this minor presentation stuff! What would be interesting about a UTV/SMG merger is what they'll do with their radio stations - the merged company would own 2 out of the 3 national commercial stations: TalkSport and Virgin Radio.

If they're allowed to keep both, along with all the other UTV stations, then they'd probably be the biggest radio group in the UK

If it's UTV taking over, I think it's more likely viewers in Scotland will get picture-postcard idents with the logo chopped in half for 4:3 viewers.

Having said that I suppose anything could happen.

I can imagine 'Ulster Media Ventures P.L.C.', 'ulster Media Group'; 'Ulster Media Ventures Group'; or soemthing like that.

Maybe even 'UTV Media Group', UTV Group, or 'UTV Media'.

Erm... yes.

I hate to think what that post was like before the four edits.

Remember it would be a merger, not a take over.
If they were to rename I think something like USMG would be appropriate? Confused
