I don't think anyone (other than certain people at ITV plc) ever regarded ITV Encore as being a good business move. It was basically a subscription version of ITV 3. Daft. I never understood the logic of it. Surprised it lasted as long as it did.
People at Sky?
Maybe - they approached ITV with a prime EPG slot, carriage and 50% of playout costs, in exchange for Sky exclusivity. The subsidies from Sky may have been a factor.
Interesting then that ITV Plc have deemed a +1 version of a regional PSB channel to be more commerically lucrative than a subscription nationwide drama channel.
