ITV News Lookaround could easily have been called ITV News Border (accurate enough, and hardly a mouthful) but they opted to keep the name of the news programme. So I assume the brand comes into it as much as anything else.
I’m unsure if announcements refer to the “Lookaround region” though.
Well, there is no term equivalent to e.g. "West Country" or "East Anglia" (etc) that means the combined Yorkshire/Lincolnshire/northern Nottinghamshire/northern Derbyshire/N-NW Nofolk area! So, what title would you suggest?
'Now the news in the grumpy bits of the North'?
Seriously, there didn't seem to be a problem naming a whole TV station 'Yorkshire' for years
I'm inclined to assume that the title will ultimately become ITV News Northern Ireland, but probably not for at least a couple more years yet. Calling it UTV News rather than UTV Live between now and then takes it a small step closer to that.
That’s the sort of comment that was quite popular about a decade or so ago.
How may times did we read that Meridian would become ITV News South and the like?
It’s obviously going to stay as currently, like all the other legacy regions have.
Yes, but it became
ITV NEWS
Meridian. And HTV News (the Welsh version) became ITV Wales News, then ITV NEWS Wales.
They've been treading more carefully with UTV for reasons we've already discussed.
And then they revived the iconic Wales at Six brand, which they use now.
Why can't people get in their head that ITV 2018 is a very different beast to ITV 2004?
The current Wales news name still doesn't mention "HTV" though!
Why can't you get it through your head that any thoughts of the 2004 approach play no part whatsoever in what I choose to anticipate as being likely happen to with UTV branding beyond 2018?

Because you've brought up what ITV has done in the past when justifying your viewpoint.

I wasn't aware that my right to choose to make a particular set of suppositions required "justifying", m'lud.
You can do what you like. But if you mention something that happened in 2004 in the same post as what you think will happen in future, don't be surprised if people interpret that as you linking both.
