t so sure about that. The UTV branding will probably survive until ITV itself changes it's ident package. Which could be a few years away. And this birthday reference was on the local news.

Why does it need to change the ident package in order to drop the UTV brand? UTV currently looks so much like ITV, very few people will notice (or care) when the UTV logo is replaced with an ITV logo.

Because that's exactly what they've done previously, with Channel Television and the dropping of ITV Wales' on-screen branding. They don't usually bother ditching it mid-branding, they wait until the next big change.

As I've said before, I don't think we should judge this on previous form because ITV's in a very different place now, not to mention all the people that made those past decisions have left. However, ITV1 Wales dropped the "Wales" on its idents during the lifetime of the yellow logo, and not at the end.

That was still a big change though - changes were made to every ident with a bigger, 3D logo, as well as introducing brand new idents to replace some of the existing set. When new idents were introduced in 2007 with a bigger (still 2D) logo they were simply added to the current set, the existing idents were not modified at all.

On the other hand, quietly changing to ITV when the branding hasn't changed otherwise would be more likely to go unnoticed.

The next step under those circumstances would be for the UTV promos with English voiceovers to be mixed with, then replaced by ITV ones.

Slowly slowly catchy monkey.

The voiceovers for utv promos are already voiced by the network.

Yes, I know. They are currently making UTV- and ITV- branded promos with the same voiceover. I'm saying that the next step would be to phase out the UTV-branded promos, and put out the ITV-branded ones out on UTV, possibly side by side with some UTV-branded ones for a while but all with the English voiceovers.

Change things slowly and a little at a time will result in changes not being noticed.

I don't understand why they don't get Julian and Gillian to voice the promos as part of their work.

Good to hear Aidan Browne back announcing last night. Also on weather duty a complete mixture covering for Frank this week - Munier yesterday and Aisling from Anglia. I wonder who shall end the week.

I think we do know the reason.

Reminds me somewhat of the changes to the regional Channel Nine affiliate NBN in Australia. For many years, it carried a version of the Nine branding which continued for some ten years after the station was bought by Nine.

Nine branded trailers slowly appeared, somewhat randomly mixed with re-badged NBN trailers, then from July 2016 the NBN branding disappeared and the station quietly became known as Nine. The watermark/ DOG changed from 9NBN to 9 (except in overlap signal areas) but - interestingly - the news service was not renamed and remains NBN News.

NBN sponsored many events in its licence area(s) and these are now sponsored by NBN News rather than NBN (news is pretty much all that’s left of the local identity as the channel is basically a rebroadcast of TCN9 in Sydney with local ads). Is it possibly ITV may go the same way and retain the UTV Live/UTV name for news and local programmes?

Somewhere down the line I’m sure NBN News will become 9 News (as the state and national bulletins are branded) so perhaps there’s little point in ITV delaying things by retaining the UTV name for news as dual-branding can be messy and confusing.

That's another reason for doing it when the idents change - the News will probably be rebranded at the same time.

UTV announcer Aidan Brown said Holly and Phil were on this morning today but Eamonn and Ruth do it every Friday xD

Probably a pre-recorded announcement played in error or do they do live continuity still?
