Interesting Halloween edition of UTV Live this evening with Julian on weather duty (more please!) and Paul Clark making a reference to the 58th Birthday since Ulster Television first started broadcasting.

I would imagine this will be the final year where an active UTV will be celebrating a birthday.
And as for Julian - my request is for "less please".

The majority of the good folk across the province love it so give them more!

Not so sure about that. The UTV branding will probably survive until ITV itself changes it's ident package. Which could be a few years away. And this birthday reference was on the local news.
John presents on Cool FM (IIRC) and I would have thought having an interesting voice was a requirement, but I found his voice dull. I certainly wouldn't have said his promos were full of excitement

Why does it need to change the ident package in order to drop the UTV brand? UTV currently looks so much like ITV, very few people will notice (or care) when the UTV logo is replaced with an ITV logo. And I would suggest that's very much all part of the plan. The phasing in of network voices on trails is undoubtedly part of the transition to ITV branding. I'd be very surprised if there's a UTV logo on their new building. I fully expect Julian and Gillian to be replaced by network announcers by the time the Northern Ireland operation moves into its new HQ.

Totally agree with this.
My assumption has always been that the new building will have e.g. "ITV Northern Ireland" signage from the outset, and that the station name (plus regional news name, UTV Life, etc etc) will change accordingly coinciding with the move.
I of course don't claim to *know* any of that for a fact, and am prepared to be proved wrong. But I will be massively surprised if that isn't what happens.

Yes - it's not really UTV anymore. The change to itv will happen when the building moves (at a guess). With voiceovers coming from London now it's just a matter of time.
The only reason utv hasn't gone is due to ofcom forcing them to provide some local output (UTV Life, View From Stormount, Rare Breed and Lesser Spotted Journeys)

Because that's exactly what they've done previously, with Channel Television and the dropping of ITV Wales' on-screen branding. They don't usually bother ditching it mid-branding, they wait until the next big change.
