I feel there is going to be a mass exodus of longstanding on screen personalities with this relocation.
There is some scope for further trimming, generally - not specifically on-screen faces
Training of newsroom staff - for example, to perform their own editing - is required.
Continuity announcers - Julian Simmons and Gillian Porter - I'll be very surprised if there are any local announcements next year.
Two presenters at 6pm - don't know why that's necessary? Rose Neill - lovely lady but no journo.
The UTV newsroom has been trimmed back quite a bit over the last 10 years or so. Not sure there's much more scope for chopping on-screen talent.
Additionally, I'd say there are very few hacks on-screen who are over the age of 45. But that's more to do with the very deliberate removal of the bigger salaries. Age brings experience - and that is sadly lacking at UTV. Most of the reporters are clones of each other, with very little difference in style. Everything about that newsroom is bland/unremarkable. And because many of them are in their 30s, they can never really speak with authority on any subject. For any real analysis, UTV is forced to wheel in freelance commentators. It really is a great mystery to me why their 6pm news programme does so well in the ratings.
