I wonder if the original building of Havelock House has any listed status attached to it?

To Clarify:

BBC have told the Belfast Telegraph that a move is on the way, and City Quays is a possibility. Look at what I wrote - "it looks like City Quays could be the new home to BBC", COULD BE, I did not say they were 100% moving there, I said COULD.

Next, Blackstaff Building was always there on Great Victoria Street, and the BBC came in and built a 6,000 Sq Ft studio space. "Convert" is another way of saying they built on the site. Why do you think the BBC kept the name Blackstaff? Blackstaff House I remember my friend telling me was owned by Blackstaff publishing and they moved out, and the BBC came in. If that is wrong, then I apologise, I am just going by what my friend told some years a go.

I don't think there's any need for that tone.

Denton was simply advising that it won't be in the next year or so. He works at BBC NI so has more knowledge than most on here.

I reckon anything more than a general studio for UTV Live/View from Stormont/UTV Life in the new base would be a surprise to me - if they have a small green screen studio for the weather, that opens the opportunity for pre-recorded IVC by Julian if ever required again.

Although if this relocation happened 15+ years ago, you'd have to have factored in separate studios to make sure you didn't have Sinn Fein and the DUP having to share the same studio space...

I feel there is going to be a mass exodus of longstanding on screen personalities with this relocation.

What makes you feel that? There's no precedent of that happening.

As I said before, it's a very similar situation to when ITV Wales moved from Culverhouse Cross to Cardiff Bay, and I feel that will be the template for this move.

Let's sincerely hope we won't be in that position again.

There is some scope for further trimming, generally - not specifically on-screen faces

Training of newsroom staff - for example, to perform their own editing - is required.

Continuity announcers - Julian Simmons and Gillian Porter - I'll be very surprised if there are any local announcements next year.

Two presenters at 6pm - don't know why that's necessary? Rose Neill - lovely lady but no journo.

The UTV newsroom has been trimmed back quite a bit over the last 10 years or so. Not sure there's much more scope for chopping on-screen talent.

Additionally, I'd say there are very few hacks on-screen who are over the age of 45. But that's more to do with the very deliberate removal of the bigger salaries. Age brings experience - and that is sadly lacking at UTV. Most of the reporters are clones of each other, with very little difference in style. Everything about that newsroom is bland/unremarkable. And because many of them are in their 30s, they can never really speak with authority on any subject. For any real analysis, UTV is forced to wheel in freelance commentators. It really is a great mystery to me why their 6pm news programme does so well in the ratings.

Why do you think the BBC kept the name Blackstaff?

The Blackstaff river runs in a culvert underneath the site. The inaugural programme from the studio made a play of that, by having a couple of sections of raised floor on the set which featured pools of water to represent the Blackstaff.

There's a hint of the oxymoron about that statement.

UTV still seems to be firmly stuck in Spring mode with its current idents. I wonder if the Summer set will make an appearance this weekend?
