I'm not implying Ericsson are unprofessional!

Well, if this was actually an error (and I don't think it was) - and it went uncorrected for about 11 hours - well, that's pretty sloppy.

Too sloppy to be credible.

Agreed.

It's possible that there was some sort of catastrophic failure somewhere which forced ITV to play out the ITV dirty feed to UTV as a backup, but then I would expect some other artefacts to appear on the channel - I take it there wasn't any weirdness apart from the promos?

Anyway we'll find out in the coming weeks if there's anything to this.

Nope. UTV programme sponsorship stings, break bumpers and idents were intact. They also managed to play UTV trails for 'View from Stormont'. As you suggest, the coming days and weeks will hopefully reveal whether or not we're right to be suspicious.

In which case it has to be deliberate. I just don't see how any playout system would make such a mistake, and not notice it all day. It makes no sense. It's not true to say that they aren't monitoring each output like a hawk for the slightest technical flaws.

Isn't the whole schedule loaded in in advance in one go, so if it was a mistake it was one mistake, not someone making a mistake every 15 minutes. I feel there is always an underlying hidden meaning with the posts by some people in this thread.

They'll just be two files to be clicked on from a glorified windows folder won't they, "The Voice promo" and "The Voice promo (UTV Version)"?

So ITV have no mechanism to stop a whole day of UTV promos going out on ITV, and would not fix any error that arose as a result?

Well it's a step up from UTV running out of date promos like they used to regularly.

In fact even now surely if anyone should notice and flag it up, it should be someone at Havelock House?

Again, all this talk as if things have gone downhill since ITV took over - rose tinted specs to the extreme.

So clearly your view is that this is a cockup.

And people have a go at me for being critical of ITV.....

Being in the Central region, I'm obviously not a huge watcher of UTV; but how long has Julian been doing voice overs for commercials on UTV? J C Halliday for one.

He did them quite often in the 1980s, voicing over a series of stills.

Theydo, I just presume no one was paying attention.

Voicing those slides featured in the job description of UTV announcers at the time. The scenario that Andrew mentions is rather different - where Julian has been hired by the advertising company to voice their ad.
