But not if it's a new job title, significantly altered job profile, and pay scale.
Granted, those a risk of redundancy should be 'ringfenced' for consideration for the new vacant position, but if UTV/TV3 can demonstrate its not an existing post then they can get away with it.
I get the impression that's not for UTV Ireland and for UTV themselves to try cross border sales and return to the way it was back before UTV Ireland appeared.
Businesses down south may still want advertise to up north - quite a few do in linear advertising such as billboards and newspapers.
I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up freelance and continues working for UTV even if it's not continuity. He'll no doubt end up the Arfon Haines Davies of UTV, popping up on irregular programmes in years to come.

Reminds me of Southern TV's 'LE Vehicle' for weatherman Trevor Baker (and that was well before he'd retired
from his day job !)

I don't doubt it, given he seems up for it. If ITV pass he'll end up doing something for BBC NI for sure. Only thing counting against him is his age I guess.
I just can't see his current gig lasting very long. I'm surprised it's lasted more than a few weeks to be honest.

I can't really believe that ITV plc would happily reinstate any form of "true" IVC (not even only temporarily for the festive season), so soon after "permanently" ditching it.
Therefore, I'm inclined to assume that the Santa Updates will occupy "programme trailer" slots in the playout schedule rather than be true CA slots directly into/out of programmes etc. In which case, I would also anticipate them being pre-recorded (with the exact same one(s) for a particular single day - e.g. with "X sleeps 'til Santa" sorts of references - being shown numerous times).
My assumptions may be wildly incorrect, of course.
