New look to bring it in line with ITV (October 2016)

I do think that's the best way to use them and a good compromise between an early launch and holding them back. C4 did the same thing last year - using them mainly for Christmas specials airing in the run up to Christmas then increasing them to almost continual use over Christmas itself.

Not sure if this is new or not, but it seems ITV are now putting out announcements in daytime on UTV.

Voiced by an ITV announcer or a UTV announcer?

Never really understood why UTV didn't do daytime pre-records

It's a myth that UTV didn't do daytime announcements... they did, but they were not consistent and they tended to use the same announcement for many days.

I know - just don't understand why they didn't adapt a similar style to STV or some of the other ITV regions when they existed obviously

Possibly a contractual thing, I'm not sure (i.e. if we cover every announcement during the day what was to stop UTV doing exactly what ITV have done now).

This is going back a long time now but Tyne Tees didn't have any morning announcements between 1993 and 1996 (bar a pre-record at 9.25 which was the same for years) when the announcer's shift was from after This Morning to around 11pm, but generally this was only a couple of announcements and they'd drag the announcer out of bed early during This Morning's off-season and cover from 10am (still with a pre-record at 9.25, but with a live announcement from the YTV announcer immediately afterwards).

So UTV's approach wasn't unique, though it must be said there's a world of difference between a few clean idents in the morning and often 9 hours of nothing in UTV's case.

A lot of adverts now seem to have the star of the show (Martin Lewis for his show, Holly Willoughby for Meet The Parents and also the Australian voiceover lady used for I'm A Celeb...) actually saying "...on UTV" at the end of their announcements. So ITV are getting them to record two versions of the trailer, one for ITV and one for UTV. Odd then, that they didn't for Paul O'Grady's Christmas promo which has an abrupt change of voice at the end to say "Christmas on UTV" by (I think) Jonathan Kearns. Wonder why they didn't get Paul to record two promos?

It's the same on STV as well, with regards to Holly and Martin saying "...on STV". It's a small thing, but I quite like it.

I think it's better than having two different voiceovers on one promo. I hope they continue to do it instead of having to tack on a local voice just to say "on UTV" or "on STV".

Assuming that the promo isn't being shown anywhere else (and in the case of a UTV or STV promo, it won't be) there really isn't any need to name-check the channel at all.
