The UTV DOG is too far in on 4:3 programming. Why couldn't they leave it in the corner where it used to be or at least have it close to the corner of the 4:3 frame?

I'm still trying to figure out how the new London based Northern Irish announcers fit in to this.

Well Julian is staying on and I assume Gillian is also. Not sure - hard to see where they come into it yet.

Do we have Gillian doing CA again today? Do they sound like the same ones as yesterday only with mentions of the new look removed?

No voiceover at all at 6am or 9.25am and branded, clean UTV idents overnight.

It definitely looks like UTV is going to be playing second fiddle to ITV. The intro to This Morning was 25 seconds of Pugwash with voiceover on ITV, but only 4 seconds of Rhythm Gymnasts on UTV without even the U of the logo fully faded on to the screen.

Not a very professional feel for UTV's presentation.

It's times like this I wish they just abandoned the UTV name and we just get the networked idents. What is the point keeping the UTV brand if you aren't going to give the brand 100%?

I'm surprised they didn't just network the itv idents with the national announcers and keep the UTV name just for UTV live. I'd prefer that over a half baked effort on keeping the UTV brand for the sake of it.

I imagine/hope with the move to new premises in 2018 the name will change to ITV then and the only reference to UTV will be in whatever name they give the news service.

It may have a new look but hearing the same old voices doing the CA and knowing it's obviously a pre-record that's used every day just seems so unprofessional and its grating for a viewer. Even if they pre-recorded a few different voices doing them and alternated them at every junction it wouldn't be half as bad, but we get Gillian saying most of the CA's every day it seems and it's getting tiresome. At least with BBC NI there's several different voices you will hear and even if their continuity isn't live, at least it sounds good. UTV's is piss poor in comparison. They have Gillian and Julian and... well, that's it.

All BBC NI continuity announcements are live.

Yep. Don't really understand why they don't do the same for UTV apart from money saving...

Maybe they will be used to record the VOs for UTV branded trailers. Are these still being recorded by someone in Belfast at the moment?

There will be cases of last minute programme changes when Gillian or Julian aren't on hand to pre-record new announcements. That doesn't mean the London-based NI voices will be on hand either, but there may be a chance they are on shift or in the building.

We would be likely to get the duty ITV announcer in cases like these I suspect, so maybe there's a 1 in 4 chance he/she will be Northern Irish!!

Well the live booth will be in Chiswick now, plus there's costs to writing continuity links and being live. Pre-records allow them to record way in advance. Continuity is typically recorded 2 weeks ahead. Might be different at ITV, but that's what I've seen.

There are continuity writers who write links for the channel(s) each day, but often live announcers write their own scripts.

Don't forget that the BBC Nations model relies on announcer/directors. One person running the channel, rather than two.
